Annoyingly Aggressive but Graciously Benign...Glandular Odontogenic Cyst...
Region - Anterior maxilla
Patient had 2 previous recurrences post enucleation of the cystic lining. Presently, the lesion had eroded the maxillary sinus floor. This time the enucleated lining was sent for histopathology & lo & behold, we get to see an odontogenic cyst showing glandular metaplasia in the lining, along with features that suggest the lesion to be 'GOC', a completely benign entity but annoyingly aggressive. Good curettage with peripheral ostectomy/cauterization take care of the recurrence.
PS - Histopathological examination of every cystic lining, however innocuous it might look, should be mandatory.
