An Announcement :

There have been some very valid complaints about there being no consultations of Dr.Irineu Antao Pereira in Margao.

We still have patients visiting our earlier consultations either at Horizon or Royal Hospitals as well as our earlier Margao Clinic at Pereira Plaza, Hospicio-Margao.

We regret that restarting consultations in Margao is not a plan either at present or in the near future , and the schedule of consultations that started during Covid-19 will continue at present and in the near future.

Consultations are only at our Panaji Clinic with a simplified appointment process after online guidance / consultation - as required. Infact, numerous patients in South Goa continue to be guided online - with the very occasional Clinic visits to Panaji.

It's very common for patients with Varicose Veins to consult a vascular surgeon at the two extremes of presentation.

They either present very early, or very late.

1. Early : These have with very minimal symptoms and signs, but
▪︎ A very strongly positive family history - mother, father or a very close blood relative who have had serious problems with Complicated Varicose Veins.

This ensures that preventive measures are explained to them, and they avoid the need for interventional treatments like surgery. I love patients presenting early.

2. Late : Thus other extreme of patients present late with
▪︎ Chronic Leg Ulcers,
▪︎ Bleeding varicose veins,
▪︎ Clots of blood in the veins and other complications.

These definitely need treatments like Endovenous Lasers to prevent severe complications. Surgery can still be avoided given the latest advances in technology. And we still love caring for them.

3.The Middle Zone of patients with Varicose Veins, need a combination of conservative and interventional treatments.

The best results come from early diagnosis.

A PRICK IN TIME, SAVES NINE.

Mr.Julius Fernandes (name changed) - a seafarer, felt disappointed when he failed his Medical Fitness.

He had a family history of varicose veins, but he felt that his varicose veins were not troubling him.

However, given the chances of complications because of his big sized veins, his wife convinced Julius that his health and life were more important to her.
