Charting Our Path Together: Country Strategy 2026–30 Workshop 🚀
We recently hosted an inspiring Country Strategy Dissemination Workshop right here at Kothara Leprosy Hospital! It was a privilege to bring together our dedicated hospital staff and members from various TLMTI projects to align our vision for the next five years.
A massive thank you to our incredible team of resource persons—with a special shout-out to Mr. Suresh Dhondge—for breaking down the complex roadmap into clear, actionable goals that every staff member can embrace.
What’s ahead for Kothara?
• Targeting Zero: We are committed to achieving Zero Transmission, Zero Disability, and Zero Discrimination in our region.
• Specialty Growth: Expanding our reach as a Centre of Excellence for specialty care to serve our community better.
• Sustainable Future: Implementing Green Hospital initiatives, including renewable energy and waste management.
• Empowering Leaders: Investing in our staff through mentoring and leadership development.
The energy in the room was high as we discussed how Kothara will contribute to the national goal of eliminating leprosy and fostering an inclusive society.

🌟 Transforming Lives through Precision & Care 🌟
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our Reconstructive Surgery (RCS) Camp, held at Kothara Leprosy Hospital from March 11th to 13th, 2026.
Over these three intensive days, our dedicated medical team performed: ✅ 18 RCS Procedures ✅ 4 Additional Specialized Procedures
These surgeries specifically targeted the correction of Grade II deformities, restoring both function and dignity to our patients. It was a privilege to serve individuals who travelled from across the region, including Betul (MP), Yavatmal, Amravati, Wardha, Nanded, and Washim.
🙏 A Heartfelt Thank You our deepest gratitude goes to our visiting surgeon, Dr. Vijaykumar sir, for his expert guidance and surgical excellence. We also want to recognize the tireless efforts of the entire Kothara Leprosy Hospital team—your commitment to patient rehabilitation makes these milestones possible.
Together, we continue the journey toward a life of independence for every patient.

🏥 Strengthening Care: Physiotherapy Training at Kothara
We are proud to share that Kothara Leprosy Hospital recently hosted a specialized 2-day capacity-building training program: "Physiotherapy for Leprosy Care."
From February 25th to 26th, 2026, we welcomed 18 dedicated healthcare professionals from the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP), Yavatmal District.
💡 Why This Matters
Leprosy care goes far beyond medical treatment; physiotherapy is the bridge to preventing disability and ensuring patients lead functional, independent lives.
The program focused on:
• Deformity Prevention: Early intervention techniques for nerve involvement.
• Self-Care Management: Empowering patients to manage sensory loss safely.
• Splinting & Exercises: Hands-on sessions for maintaining joint mobility.
• Rehabilitative Care: Tailored strategies for long-term physical wellness.

🤝 Collaborative Impact
By equipping government health workers with these specialized skills, we are ensuring that the residents of Yavatmal receive expert care closer to home.
A big thank you to the NLEP Yavatmal team for their participation, ADHS (Leprosy) Amravati & team for their visit and encouragement during the training and to our faculty for sharing their expertise. Together, we are working toward a future where leprosy no longer leads to disability.

Educational Visit: Building Awareness & Compassion
We were delighted to welcome a group of 25 students and 2 faculty members from the College of Social Work, Kamptee, to Kothara Leprosy Hospital yesterday, January 15, 2026!

As part of their academic curriculum, these future social workers joined us for an immersive learning experience. The visit included:

Orientation: A comprehensive session on the history of our hospital and the medical realities of leprosy today.

Ward Interactions: Students spent time in the wards, speaking directly with our patients to understand their journeys, challenges, and resilience.

Stigma Reduction: Learning firsthand how social work plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and acceptance of those affected by leprosy.

The students expressed great satisfaction with the exposure they received, noting how the visit bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world impact.

Thank you, College of Social Work, Kamptee, for visiting us! We believe that educating the next generation of professionals is key to creating a more inclusive and leprosy-aware society.

Field Visit from Dr. Ambedkar College of Social Work
We were honored to welcome 30 students and 3 professors from Dr. Ambedkar College of Social Work to Kothara Leprosy Hospital as part of their field experience program.
During their visit, they received an insightful overview of The Leprosy Mission Trust India, our hospital's work, and the core values that guide our mission. Our Senior Manager, Mr. Panchanan Gorain, led the session, explaining the realities of leprosy, its impact on individuals, and addressing common misconceptions about the disease.
The group also toured our wards and had meaningful interactions with patients, gaining a deeper understanding of both the medical and social aspects of leprosy care.

We thank the students and faculty for their interest and engagement, and we hope this experience inspires continued compassion and advocacy in their future work.
