Visualizing the pains and problems of cardiac patients and their attendants, Dr. A. Thakur the then Director of IGIC decided to set up a hospital for tertiary care of cardiac patients. His dream came true in the form of HEART HOSPITAL in Kankarbag, Patna on November 14, 1994 – the first of its kind in private sector in Bihar. Since then Heart Hospital gradually grew in size and today

Heart Hospital, Madhubani successfully organized a Free Medical Camp on 11 March 2026 at Bala Yadav Residential Campus, near 13 No. Gumti, Madhubani.

The camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sanat Kumar Thakur (DM Cardiology) along with Dr. Prashant Kumar and the dedicated team of Heart Hospital. During the camp, patients received free medical consultations, heart check-ups, ECG, blood pressure and diabetes screening, and guidance for various health conditions including heart disease, chest problems, and other illnesses. Free medicines were also distributed to patients.

The camp was held from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and many people from the surrounding community benefited from this initiative.

On the occasion of World Obesity Day, Dr. Sanat Kumar Thakur, shared important insights from a cardiologist’s perspective on the growing challenge of obesity.

According to Dr. Thakur, obesity is no longer just a cosmetic concern—it has become one of the most significant risk factors for cardiovascular disease. “Excess body weight places tremendous strain on the heart. It increases the risk of hypertension, diabetes, heart attack, and stroke. What many people don’t realize is that the damage to the heart often begins years before symptoms appear,” he explained.

Since its establishment, Heart Hospital, Patna has maintained a fully functional, round-the-clock Cardiac Surgery department, delivering 24×7 emergency cardiac care to the people of Bihar and beyond. As an apex cardiac centre, the hospital continues to set new benchmarks in surgical excellence and clinical expertise.

In a recent milestone achievement, the CTVS team at Heart Hospital, under the expert guidance of Chief CTVS Surgeon Dr. Aamir Kazmi (MS, M.Ch), successfully performed a highly complex Redo Mitral Valve Replacement (Redo MVR) on a 28-year-old female patient.

Redo cardiac surgeries are considered high-risk procedures due to scar tissue from the previous operation and require specialized equipment, including an oscillating sternotomy saw. The patient had previously undergone Mitral Valve Replacement in 2013 at Safdarjung Hospital, where a bioprosthetic (tissue) valve was implanted. Over a span of 10–12 years, the tissue valve degenerated, leading to severe Mitral Regurgitation (MR) and significant symptoms.

The surgical team successfully performed the Redo MVR and implanted a 27 mm On-X Mechanical Valve, ensuring long-term durability and optimal cardiac function.

The patient’s post-operative recovery has been excellent, and she is doing well on regular follow-up in the OPD.

🫀 Successful Carotid Angioplasty at Heart Hospital, Patna

Renowned Interventional Cardiologist of Bihar, Dr. Ashish Kumar Jha, Senior Interventional Cardiologist at Heart Hospital Patna, recently performed a life-saving carotid artery stenting procedure on a 74-year-old male patient presenting with recurrent syncope.

After detailed evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with 95% Internal Carotid Artery (ICA) stenosis due to an atherothrombotic lesion.
Carotid angioplasty with embolic protection device was successfully performed with an excellent final result.

Chief Cardiac Surgeon Dr Aamir Kazmi (MBBS, MS, MCh – CTVS) successfully performed a complex double cardiac procedure (Mitral Valve Replacement + CABG) on Mrs. Saraswati Devi, who had presented with severe shortness of breath and chest pain.

At the time of admission nearly 3 months ago, the patient was critically ill — bedridden, unable to walk, and suffering from extreme breathlessness. Coronary angiography revealed significant coronary artery disease along with long-standing calcified mitral valve disease, requiring both valve replacement and bypass surgery.

The case carried very high surgical risk due to multiple co-morbidities:
• Advanced age (76 years)
• Long-standing calcified mitral valve disease
• COPD
• High pulmonary artery pressure
• Obesity with bedridden status
• Atrial fibrillation

After detailed counselling and informed consent, the surgical team proceeded with Mitral Valve Replacement along with Triple Vessel Bypass (3 grafts). The surgery remained uneventful.

Although the postoperative recovery was initially slow, the patient improved remarkably. With regular follow-ups, her functional capacity has drastically improved and her NYHA status is now significantly better.
