Dr. Thakur’s visionary work, dedication to patient care, and commitment to advancing cardiovascular medicine continue to inspire generations of physicians and researchers. His legacy lives on not only through his clinical excellence but also through this annual oration that celebrates thought leadership in medicine.

This year, CSI had the honour of hosting Dr. Awadesh Kumar Singh, MD, DM (Endocrinology)—a renowned endocrinologist from Kolkata—who delivered the prestigious Dr. A. K. Thakur Memorial Oration. His insightful lecture beautifully bridged the link between endocrinology and cardiology, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of modern medicine.

Following the session, Dr. Awadesh Kumar Singh was felicitated by esteemed chairpersons Dr. S. S. Chatterjee, Dr. K. K. Barun, and other distinguished members of the CSI fraternity.

🌟 Remembering Dr. A. K. Thakur – Father of Modern Cardiology in Bihar On The World Heart Day🌟

Dr. Ashok Kumar Thakur, lovingly remembered as the Father of Modern Cardiology in Bihar, was a pioneer who transformed heart care in the state.

Born in 1937, Dr. Thakur completed his MBBS and MD from Patna before pursuing advanced training in cardiology in Manchester, UK. With his vision and dedication, he laid the foundation of specialized cardiac services in Bihar and became instrumental in establishing the Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology (IGIC), Patna, which remains a lifeline for countless patients.

Even after retiring from government service, his passion for patient care led him to establish Heart Hospital, Patna—the first state-of-the-art private cardiac hospital in the region, where he continued serving with the same compassion and commitment.

Dr. Thakur’s life and work symbolize selfless service, medical excellence, and an unwavering mission to bring quality heart care to Bihar. Generations of doctors and patients continue to benefit from the institutions and systems he built. Dr Thakur was selected for the B C Roy award, which couldn’t be delivered after an unexpected end to this cherished life.
