Mooren's ulcer or rodent ulcer or Peripheral ulcerative keratitis
It is ulcerative diseases affecting cornea. The ulcer starts at limbus and affects the corneal stroma. Progression of ulcer is typically along the circumference of cornea. The stromal send has typical overhanging margin.
Exact etiology of this ulcer is still not clear but there is involvement of immunological process in it causation.
So mainstay of treatment is use of steroids in this ulcer which otherwise is contraindicated in other corneal ulcers.
So, distinguishing it from routine ulcer based on the clinical features is very important.
Surgical process like conjunctival recession, cynoacrylate glue application , lamellar grafts an be done in nonresponsive or impending perforation cases.
