A 60-year-old male with a known history of hypertension, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, and a long-standing history of smoking presented to the Emergency Room of North End Hospital with complaints of severe chest pain. Given his underlying risk factors, the clinical team was immediately alert to the possibility of a cardiac event.
On evaluation, his ECG and cardiac biomarkers revealed that he was suffering from a posterior wall myocardial infarction, a major and potentially life-threatening type of heart attack. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the patient was promptly shifted to the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Thanks to the efficient coordination of the emergency and cardiology team being led Dr Mustafa Bashir Sir ,primary angioplasty was performed within the golden hour — a critical window where timely intervention significantly improves survival rates and long-term outcomes.
As a result of this prompt action, the patient’s life was saved, and he was stabilized without further complications.
This case serves as a strong reminder of the importance of early recognition, swift response, and the role of advanced cardiac care in managing acute coronary syndromes. It also emphasizes the long-term risks associated with uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, and smoking, which cumulatively increase the likelihood of major cardiovascular events.
Performing life-saving procedures like angioplasty in peripheral regions — away from metropolitan centers — is in itself a remarkable achievement. It is a reflection of commitment, skill, and vision to bring world-class cardiac care to every corner.
