*HEADACHE AND HOMOEOPATHY*
Headaches are one of the most common complaint affecting the population of present era. It affects everyone regardless of their age or gender.
A headache can occur in any part of the head, either on both sides of the head or in just one particular part.
Basically headache can be divided into 2 broad categories :
(1) Primary
(2) Secondary
Under primary headache, based on the location of appearance of pain, it can further be classified into:
(a) Sinus headache: caused by sinusitis. The pain usually occurs behind the forehead and/or cheekbones along with a sensation of heaviness of head.
(b) Migraine: basically causes a pulsating/throbbing pain mostly confines to one side of the head. It may also be accompanied by other symptoms such as blurred vision, nausea etc.
(c) Tension headache: there may be mild to moderate pain usually felt like a band around the head. They have a tendency to affect both sides of the head.
(d) Cluster headache: sudden pain usually confined around one eye. Pains are described as sharp, lasting for 1-3 hours.
(2) Secondary headache: those headaches which are stimulated by already existing disease conditions like brain tumors, blood clots, bleeding in or around the brain, stroke etc.
*General Management*
(1) Maintain the biological rhythm/clock:
- eat meals at the proper time
- drink adequate amount of water (minimum 8 glass)
- adequate sleep (minimum 6 hours)
(2) Avoid factors which trigger headache such as
- chocolates, junk foods.
- strong smelling perfumes.
- dehydration.
- excessive noise exposure.
- continuous eye strain.
(3) Regular exercise helps in reducing the frequency and intensity of headache. When a person exercises, the body releases natural painkillers called endorphins. So regular exercise for about 30 minutes is beneficial to the person.
*Homoeopathic Management*
Homoeopathic system of medicine is based on *INDIVIDUALISATION*. Hence, we take into consideration all those symptoms which makes an individual unique. So factors like mode of onset, triggering and relieving factors and the so called associated symptoms which, according to Modern Medicine, are considered less relevant, are most valuable to a homoeopathic physician.
Homoeopathy being a holistic science treats on the basis of the above mentioned factors that affects the particular individual and individualises them.
The treatment of headaches, both acute and chronic through Homoeopathy has excellent scope. Unlike Modern Medicine that offers temporary relief, Homoeopathic system not only reduces the intensity and frequency of headache, but also promises to give an almost permanent cure along with lifestyle changes.
Homoeopathic treatment for headache is vouchsafed by thousands of patients who have come to my clinic for treatment. Continuous treatment for a time period of about 4-5 months are usually advised to ensure complete cure.
