Ahimsa (अहिंसा) – ah-him-sah
The meaning of Ahimsa is non-violence; compassion toward all living beings in thought, word, and action.
Ahimsa is the foundational principle of yoga ethics. It is the first of the Yamas in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. It invites us to live with kindness and respect to cause no harm to ourselves, others, or the environment and to cultivate a gentle strength rooted in love and awareness.
In everyday life, ahimsa can show up in simple yet powerful ways:
💭 Practising self-compassion instead of self-criticism
🗣 Speaking truthfully but kindly
🌱 Choosing mindful, sustainable actions that respect all beings
🧘♀️ Moving with awareness on the mat — listening to your body without force
💞 Meeting others with patience, empathy, and forgiveness
Living with ahimsa isn’t about being perfect — it’s about becoming more aware, more compassionate, and more intentional in every moment.
