Early Introduction: The first known introduction was around 1810 by a French traveler, but it was a Romanian man, Dr. John Martin Honigberger, who significantly spread it during his visits in 1835 and 1839.
Royal Patronage: Honigberger successfully treated the ruler of Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, which gave the system royal patronage and helped it take root.
Establishment: The first homeopathic medical college in India, the Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College, was established in 1881.
Official Recognition: After independence, the Indian government formally recognized homeopathy as one of the national systems of medicine in 1973, establishing the Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) to regulate its practice and education.
Today, homeopathy has a strong following and is a popular system of medicine in India, with a large number of registered practitioners and government support through the Ministry of AYUSH.
