Cases are rising in highly vaccinated populations-

Lesson to learn & points to ponder :

Iceland, Israel & USA have fully vaccinated very high % of their population . Cases are rising rapidly in these 3 countries and rise is almost similar when adjusted to population . But look at hospital admission . Its is much higher in USA than other two countries. When compared to Iceland Israel has slightly higher hospitalization . Then comes the interesting fact. If we look at the fully vaccinated population Iceland (75%) > Israel ( 62 %) > USA ( 50 %). Just reverse the order USA> Israel > Island – this is the order of hospital admission . What does this tell us
1, Vaccination may not prevent all infections or has lesser efficacy than shown in trials in preventing infection
2, Vaccinations prevent severe disease and hence hospitalization . So its extremely important to get vaccinated
3. After vaccinating a critical population ( >60 %) metrics will change to hospital occupancy than number of cases per day
4.All these three countries have withdrawn masking in vaccinated . This policy has contributed to rapid increase in cases. Now masks are reintroduced. Masks will remain even after vaccinating good number of persons
4. Zero covid pursued by some countries appears to be impossible target. At the most we can aim for zero covid deaths .
