Red/green glasses are a vital tool in vision therapy, particularly for anti-suppression activities aimed at treating lazy eye or strabismus.

These glasses, with one red lens and one green lens, facilitate monocular fixation in a binocular field (MFBF) exercises, encouraging both eyes to work together.

During activities, patients view red/green targets, such as reading charts or cards, where each eye sees only its corresponding color due to matching filters.

This setup helps patients recognize and correct suppression of the weaker eye, with optometrists monitoring feedback to ensure binocular engagement.

I recently had an opportunity to lead a Parent Awareness Workshop focused on the transformative role of vision therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and it was a truly rewarding experience.

We explored the critical need for Functional Vision Assessments, shedding light on how vision challenges can create significant obstacles for children with autism.

Through meaningful discussions, parents gained a clear understanding of how targeted vision therapy can break down these barriers, fostering improvements in learning, communication, and overall development.

A sincere thank you to everyone who joined and made this event so special. Let’s keep this momentum going, spreading awareness, and building brighter futures for autistic children together!

Meet a 7-year-old girl with Autism whose world once felt out of reach. Poor eye contact, weak motor coordination, delayed speech, and repetitive behaviors—like spinning toys for hours—defined her days.

Then came vision therapy, tailored to her unique needs. After months of dedicated sessions, her transformation stunned her family: she now locks eyes with her parents, grips a pencil with ease, speaks more relevantly, and has waved goodbye to repetitive habits.

Vision therapy didn’t just sharpen her sight—it rewired how her brain connects to the world.

For her, it was the key to unlocking her potential. Could it be for your child too?

Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, we celebrate the unique perspectives and incredible potential of individuals on the autism spectrum.

For some people with autism, the world isn’t just overwhelming because of social or sensory challenges—it’s also a visual puzzle.

Studies suggest that up to 40% of individuals on the spectrum may experience vision-related difficulties.

These challenges can amplify feelings of frustration, hinder communication, and make everyday tasks feel like climbing a mountain.

Vision therapy isn’t about “fixing” autism—it’s about empowering individuals by addressing these hidden hurdles.

Through tailored exercises and techniques, it can improve eye-tracking, focus, and visual processing, opening doors to better learning, social connection, and independence.

Imagine a child who can finally follow a teacher’s pointer on a board or an adult who feels less overwhelmed navigating a busy street.
That’s the power of seeing the world more clearly.

This April 2nd, let’s shine a light on the need for accessible vision therapy. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution, but for those who need it, it can be life-changing.

Let’s advocate for screenings, support, and resources so every individual with autism has the chance to thrive—visually, emotionally, and beyond.

Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a neurological condition that affects the way the brain processes visual information. Unlike other forms of visual impairment, CVI originates from damage to the visual pathways or the visual center of the brain, rather than issues with the eyes themselves.

Cortical visual impairment is a complex condition that requires understanding and support. By recognizing its signs and advocating for appropriate interventions, we can make a positive difference in the lives of those affected.

Increased awareness about CVI can lead to earlier diagnosis and better support for affected individuals and their families. Share this information within your community, and advocate for resources and services that help those with CVI thrive.

Keep checking this space for more updates on CVI.

Vision therapy is a specialized form of treatment designed to improve visual skills and processing, which are crucial for effective reading and writing. Here are some key points highlighting its importance:

·        Vision therapy helps enhance eye teaming skills, ensuring that both eyes work together effectively, which is essential for tracking words on a page.

·        Training can improve the ability to focus on text and switch focus between different distances, reducing visual fatigue during reading.

·        Therapy can improve how the brain interprets visual information, aiding in recognizing letters, words, and sentences.

·        Better depth perception can help students understand spatial relationships in writing, such as the organization of ideas on a page.

·        By improving visual efficiency, vision therapy can reduce symptoms like headaches, blurred vision, and discomfort that often accompany prolonged reading and writing.

·        Improved tracking and focusing abilities lead to better reading fluency, allowing students to read more smoothly and with better comprehension.

Vision therapy is customized to meet the specific needs of each student, addressing unique challenges they may face in reading and writing.

The skills developed through vision therapy can have lasting effects, improving overall academic performance and confidence in literacy tasks.

In summary, vision therapy training plays a crucial role in enhancing reading and writing performance by developing essential visual skills, improving processing, and reducing discomfort. This specialized approach not only supports academic success but also fosters a positive attitude towards learning.
