🧘 Vasisthasana (Side Plank) with Chair Support

This tutorial guides you through performing the Vasisthasana using a chair and a brick for support, making the pose more accessible and stable.

Preparation

1. Get Set Up 🧍
• Place a chair beside you.
• Place a yoga brick/block on the floor on the opposite side of the chair.
• Stand sideways next to the chair.
Entering the Pose
1. Initial Side Lean 🤸‍♀️ (0:15)
• Slowly slide down, resting your outer hip and thigh against the seat of the chair for support.
• Make sure your body is in one straight line.
2. Hand Placement 🧱 (0:22)
• Place the hand closest to the floor onto the yoga brick/block.
• The brick should be positioned directly below your shoulder for proper alignment. Lock your elbow straight.
3. Body Alignment 📐 (0:28)
• Ensure your entire body is aligned—from your head down to your feet. Align the body before you raise the leg.
Executing the Full Pose
1. Lift and Hold Toe 🦵 (0:30)
• Slowly bend your top knee towards your chest.
• Reach down with your top hand and hold your big toe (or use a strap if needed).
2. Extend the Leg ✨ (0:36)
• Lift your chest and roll your top shoulder back to open the pose.
• Extend your top leg straight up towards the ceiling, maintaining the grip on your big toe.
3. Final Checks 👁️ (0:40)
• Keep the bottom leg and bottom arm (the one on the brick) straight.
• Lock the elbows for stability.
• Finally, look up and find a focus point (drishti), gazing towards the big toe of the lifted leg.

Vasisthasana with a chair helps build core strength and balance while providing extra stability for the lateral stretch and leg lift.
