IBS and SIBO can be hard to tell apart as they have similar symptoms like bloating, gas, pain, and either diarrhoea or constipation.
However, there are certain differences⬇️
➡️ SIBO affects the small intestine, whereas IBS affects the large intestine
➡️ SIBO is caused by low stomach acid that results in an overgrowth of bacteria while for IBS the causes include bacterial overgrowth in your intestines, infections in your GI tract, and food allergies or sensitivities
➡️ Probiotics and prebiotics, fibre are more likely to make SIBO worse and IBS better
➡️ The use of antibiotics gives a temporary improvement in SIBO symptoms but not in IBS symptoms
