Postpartum depression - a topic that needs to be addressed and identified, treated because of dire consequences, not just due to the consequences on the woman, but also on the entire family!

It was my honour to share the couch with Dr. Bhushan Shukla, child and adolescent psychiatrist to address this topic with Amuk Tamuk 's Omkar Jadhav and Shardul Kadam.

Do watch the full podcast on the link below, and share it with all!😊

I get a lot of calls from distraught pet parents asked to give up their fur babies after a positive pregnancy test.

This is totally unjustified and unnecessary. With adequate precautions, a pet and a baby can coexist beautifully!

I have handled hundreds of healthy pregnancies whose life was only made better with the presence of a four-legged family member- this one's for all of you!❤️

Exercise has its own role in women's health.
- It helps regulate your hormones, and regularise your periods.
- It increases the levels of endorphins or 'happy hormones' in your body and reduces your symptoms of PMS.
- It is one of the most important components in the management of PCOS.
- It improves your bone health, especially after menopause.
- It smoothens out your menopausal transition.
- It improves your libido and s*xual health.
- It improves your fertility and chances of conception.
- It reduces your risk of certain cancers, especially breast cancer.
- It protects you against cardiovascular diseases, dementia and leads to better mental health.
- Women who exercise during pregnancy are less likely to have overweight babies, premature deliveries, hypertension in pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, caesarean deliveries. Research has also shown that their babies have better motor skills.

Do you need any more reasons to get into your fitness gear and start moving?😊

Here's me- running a 10K each for the last two Sundays!
And the lady in the last picture is my mother, who would be turning 61 in a month!

Pregnancy is not an illness or a disease. It is physiological.

A lot of women (and mostly their families) insist on bed rest throughout the course of pregnancy.
Myths and misconceptions are rife, on 'something going wrong' if a pregnant woman is allowed to work.

Well, surprise surprise!
Studies actually say that pregnancy outcomes are better if a woman remains active throughout the course of pregnancy. There is a lesser risk of gestational diabetes, hypertension, intrauterine growth restriction, and a greater chance of a va**nal delivery in such women. There is NO ROLE of bed rest, even after IVF.
Bed rest may, in fact, increase the risk of thromboembolic events, that is, risk of blood clots in the veins of the lower limb and elsewhere, especially in such women who are on high doses of Estradiol.

I always recommend women to stay active throughout their pregnancy, and keep themselves busy, physically and mentally.

Having said that, it is very important to remember that the bottomline is always to LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!
Especially in the first trimester, your hormones change, and your body takes some time getting used to them. You may not feel as comfortable or energetic as you initially were. It's okay to take it easy.
Exercise in pregnancy (except contact sports) can be continued safely after consultation with your doctor.
There are a few conditions in which your doctor may advise you bed rest, such as a threatened miscarriage, pre eclampsia, a low lying placenta, threatened preterm labour, cervical incompetence and so on.

TW- Trigger Warning!

Imagine being all of 5 years old. Your mother or aunt takes you out on the pretext of an icecream to a dingy lane. Three women hold you down, pull down your underwear- you see a filthy blade being heated on a candle flame. Your cries fall on deaf ears, nobody pays heed to the pain, the bleeding. You've now gone through the 'rite of passage'.

Shocking? Yes, this happens. Female ge***al mutilation is very much real. It is still, to this date, practiced in some communities as a 'tradition'.
The cl****is, l***a majora may be cut off, the va**na may be sealed off- in the belief that 'female circumcision' may be useful to encourage fidelity.

There is absolutely no benefit of this procedure, in fact it leads to many immediate or long term complications including urinary problems, recurrent infections, pain, acute blood loss, menstrual issues, psychological trauma, sepsis, shock and even death. The WHO has strongly condemned this practice, as should we all.

February 6th is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation.
Let's all strive to lend a patient ear, a helping hand to women who have suffered and stand up together against this practice.

In the course of my work, I'm fortunate enough to meet wonderful couples and families. Over the journey of pregnancy and delivery, a doctor- patient relationship always develops into something that's beyond purely professional!
Childbirth is an intimate process, and I'm grateful to those who place their trust in my hands.
Alongwith the doctor's skill and expertise, what also matters is how positively the mother-to-be takes our suggestions and advise, and equally important is having a caring and supportive family by her side!
Sonal and Chinmay have been all that and more!

And as a culmination of all our efforts, we have this beautiful little princess to be proud of!😊

to have been a part of their journey of parenthood!

Three important things to remember when you visit your gynaecologist-
1. No question is too stupid to ask! It's always better to get your facts checked by the expert rather than rely on Google!
2. P***c hair is natural, and nothing to be ashamed of!
3. A good Gynaecologist never judges you based on your s*x life (or lack of it!) We're there to solve your queries, put you at ease and get rid of your apprehensions! Be honest, be yourself!
