Many a times squint runs in family. The solution can be as simple as glasses or a surgery. As shown, both the twins in 1st photo have squint and they would need glasses+ surgery for better vision development. While in second picture, the child's father and paternal aunt (आत्या) have squint since childhood and they were asked to just wait. Both of them have lesser vision in the eye having squint. The child however got treated for the squint and has 100% vision now..
What all was required for him is just a pair of glasses! Be vigilant about your child's eye problems if your family members have something since birth/ childhood.. Solution can be very simple..

Squint or crossed eyes..
1. It does not get cured on its own as child grows up.
2. It is a sign indicating that child's vision is not developing well/ equally in both eyes.
3. "Just wait and watch" approach may land up the child having and living with lazy eye throughout life.
4. It can arise due to simple conditions as glasses number, cataract and also due to conditions as dangerous as eye cancer.
Both conditions have remedies.
5. Squint in kids is more than just cosmesis!
6. Please get your child's eye thoroughly evaluated by Paediatric Ophthalmologist well in time.

Paediatric refraction (checking spectacle number in kids) and dispensing is not like adult refraction!..It is not that easy.

In this picture we can see, the glasses are made for this 6 months old child and fit in adult spectacle frame. The child can't see well through the glasses, neither can she tell how uncomfortable she is!
The very purpose of giving glasses at such a young age goes for a toss in such case.
Hence, get your child's eyes
1.Checked by certified Paediatric Ophthalmologist and NOT IN OPTICAL SHOP even though they claim it to be computerised.
2.Number is checked and confirmed only after putting the drops.
3.Child's eye should be thoroughly
evaluated by a doctor.
4. Selecting a frame, calculating distance between 2 eyes, fitting glasses in the frame is a science and it has to be done correctly.
5.Once made, get the glasses checked once again from your Paediatric Ophthalmologist.

It was a humbling experience interacting with the 'young' brigade at 'Snehdham' home for the elderly and 'Katta Gang' (as they fondly call themselves)... One could not miss but appreciate the energy with which they got their doubts and querries clarified about 'Osteoporosis and Bone, Joint and Spine care in the elderly' . The youngest member was around 70 years old and the eldest around 96 years!!!
