I get asked a lot about weather to give milk to babies and how much to give.
Post one year external milk can be given and start very slow in small amounts.

Please do not restrict milk fat and always choose a full fat variant available for babies or toddlers.

Always prefer cow milk over any other variant for kids as it is easier to digest.

My Little T just turned 7mo. These are foods I have introduced to her in last month after she turned 6m. I follow BLW for her as I did for P.

With P I was a little more held back, with T I have already started giving her meals from family pot sans the salt sugar and chilli.

I am already over halfway to the minimum target of 101 before one but so much of our regular foods are introduced to her.

At 6m she was only on one meal and due to her being unwell initially we postponed the starting of soilds by one week

If I can make this happen u can too.

T mostly accepted all foods well though some were rejected.

When your Toddler on Valentine's day wants to make cupcakes for Daddy, you have to work as Sous Chef as she wants to do everything on her own.😉

Ingredients:
3 ripe bananas mashed
1/4th cup vegetable oil or butter
1/4th cup milk(almond milk for vegan version)
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 Teaspoon baking powder
1/4th teaspoon baking soda(optional)
1/4th teaspoon vanilla essence
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 Tablespoon cocopowder(optional)

Recipe:
Mix all the ingredients well and form a batter. Add more milk of needed
Preheat oven to 180°C
Fill the muffin tray or silicon moulds to 3/4th
Bake for 20 minutes(time might vary by few minutes for different ovens)

To my darling Privika,

Happy 18 Months.

So much has happened in the last six months, the changes in you are immeasurable. You have gone from cruising around the furniture and venturing the odd step, to running rings round Papa and I.

You love to help Mumma and Papa and are gaining much more understanding of what we are saying. Being able to carry out tasks and it is so nice to start this proper communication with you.

The last couple of months have been challenging. I think you are being bothered by your teeth and feeling frustration at not being able to talk to us properly. It has resulted in lots of crying and shouting, at both our ends which is draining for us all. Hopefully, things will start to settle soon. And I promise to do better.

You are bright, funny, beautiful, determined, loving, independent and I hope you always will be.

Every day you make me laugh, you make me smile, you make me proud, and above all you make me very very grateful to be your mumma

Neonatal Jaundice Part V
Treatments.

Mild Neonatal Jaundice usually do onot need any Treatments and are self correcting.

High levels of Bilirubin in infants however do need Treatments.

Phototherapy is the first line of treatment incorporated.
You can check the Phototherapy chart to see when at what age and Bilirubin levels is Phototherapy needed. If below threshold levels it is not recommended. Your doctor will guide you the best but this can give you an idea.

Dual surface Phototherapy with lights is most common. In severe cases triple surface Phototherapy with Bili blankets is used.

Phototherapy can have some adverse effects when done intensely.

IVIG fights the Maternal antibodies and stops lysis of rbc in cases of Hemolytic Jaundice.

In exchange transfusion blood is administered from one side and removed from other changing entire circulating blood which removes antibodies and excess Bilirubin from system. This is a severe measure, and can have adverse effects.
It is not suggested till any other method of treatment can be used.

Privika was to get exchange transfusion but at last min her Bilirubin levels started dropping and extensive tsp worked.

Very high Bilirubin levels in an infant's blood can easily cause brain damage and even death in severe conditions.

Knowing that my baby was so close to the levels which could hamper her brain scared me like nothing else. She was just a day old then.

By God's grace amd timely treatment she recovered well and her Bilirubin levels did not reach the level where it could cross into her brain.

In my next post Will share the details over treatments and when are treatments actually required in case of Neonatal Jaundice.

Neonatal Jaundice Part 3.

I know there have been a long gap from last post to this one, but I have been pre occupied with a lot of things.

The most common reasons of Neonatal Jaundice are listed ot here under the types.

While we can prevent rh incompatibility Jaundice to some extent by giving anti-D injection to Mother during pregnancy, there is no such measure for other causes or types.

Privika got ABO incompatibility Jaundice, which also led to severe anemia in her first month of life. But she picked up back quick after recovering by God's grace.

G6PD deficiency is mentioned septately inspite of being a Metabolic issue as that is the most common one.

Please comment below the cause if you wish to know details of a particular cause and I will elaborate on the same.

This is specifically to make ppl aware that all kids do not have physiologic Jaundice and all cannot recover without treatment.

So if your baby has any of above, the cause has to be addressed and Jaundice treated.

If your baby develops Neonatal Jaundice, bas dhoop dikhana might not work. Ek baar Dr. Se check up bhi karvalo.
