Xanthelesma is a peculiar condition where cholesterol is deposited around the eyes. It’s a gradual slow painless process unrelated to the cholesterol levels in the body. People try lasers or TCA peels to burn them, which then leave scarred skin. Surgical excision and suturing, if done well can get rid of them with almost no scar. Here the pathology is not getting cured, only the unsightly Xanthelesma is getting removed. Rarely Xanthelesma can recur if the pathology is still ongoing. Some glimpses of my recent visit to Moscow, on the invitation of Prof Natalia Manturova, to attend and present at the 14 Russian Plastic Aesthetic and cosmetic conference. A very well organised conference, with high participation in a very clean disciplined city. Felt honoured and priviledged to be an invited faculty at such a prestigious meeting. Some revision rhinoplasties are difficult and some are very difficult 😅 this was one of the latter. Firstly, everything is stuck in fibrous concrete. You have to free normal cartilage out from that mess. Then you don’t know what is the altered anatomy from previous surgery. Then you have to identify the faults that were not corrected during the last operation. Find suitable means and ways to correct them and essential get a result the patient will be happy with. Usually the patient always wants a perfect nose. Not easy but we try. This is one of those cases. Used a rib graft for reconstructing the bent crooked septum and missing part. Dorsum augmentation in my favourite style. Hope he allows me to share his post op photos. Keep following
