Abnormal head posture arising as a result of eye muscle imbalance can cause severe neck strain, improper development and contracture of neck and facial muscles.

Surgery on eye muscles can correct the abnormal head posture to a large extent!

Though surgery is possible at any age, earlier the better!

Operated a 2.5 month old baby for congenital (by birth) cataract, which was due to Rubella (German measles) infection in the mother during pregnancy. Unfortunately not a rare occurrence, especially in rural areas of the country, it is preventable by Rubella vaccination in the mother before pregnancy.

All adolescent girls should be vaccinated against Rubella; this can prevent the serious and potentially life threatening Congenital Rubella Syndrome in the baby.

A small effort by me to spread awareness! Please help spread the word!

Happy to share that I have successfully completed my short term fellowship in Ocular Genetics from the University Hospital, Ghent, Belgium.

Feeling extremely fortunate to have been Prof. Bart Leroy's first Indian student, and to be starting the first 'OCULAR GENETICS CLINIC' in Maharashtra!

Genetic (inherited) eye diseases are an important cause of visual impairment and blindness in children and adults, but are often overlooked and underdiagnosed.

My aim in doing this Fellowship was to be better able to manage patients with these conditions, to better diagnose and counsel regarding its prognosis and prevention in the future generations. With the latest advances in diagnostic modalities, emerging gene therapies and artificial reproductive techniques, no longer can we tell these patients, 'nothing can be done'!

Looking forward to helping all patients suspected of suffering from a genetic eye disease (affecting the anterior or posterior segment), by thorough history taking including pedigree charting, clinical examination and appropriate imaging, perimetry, electrophysiology and genetic testing along with pre and post genetic counseling.

There's something so satisfying about treating complicated squints!
This patient presented with a large angle recurrent squint after being operated in childhood. Usually both eyes would need to be operated for such a large angle.
With a technique of MUSCLE TRANSPLANTATION, perfect result was obtained by operating only one eye! Eye movement deficit was corrected as well.

Dr. Tanmayi Dhamankar moderated a session on 'Stress Busters for Women', conducted by the Women Empowerment Committee of the Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society (MOS).
Great insights from three lovely lady Ophthalmologists, Dr. Anuradha Totey, Dr. Neha Dholakia and Dr. Meenakshi Bhagali.

- Don't aim to be a 'superwoman' and a 'good girl'. You are a human being.
- You cannot please everyone all the time.

Successfully operated the first Paediatric ophthal GA (General anaesthesia) case at Rajgurunagar, a small town near Pune.
Ophthalmic surgeries for adults were being done in the town, but children had to be referred to Pune for want of specialists. Thanks to the initiative of DrSheetal Khismatrao of Niramay Netralay at Rajgurunagar, and Dr. Savita Ghumatkar the anesthetist, I was able to offer my speciality services there!
I remember my mentor Dr Suma Ganesh ma'am telling me after my selection for paediatric ophthalmology fellowship at SCEH, Delhi.....'I don't generally select candidates from big cities, I want to train doctors from smaller towns so that they can make a difference in their area.'
So Suma madam...I hope I haven't let you down! This one's dedicated to you! Thanks for being a wonderful and encouraging teacher!
