Spending more than 10 minutes on the toilet and straining your muscles can be harmful because:
Increased re**al pressure- Prolonged straining puts pressure on re**al veins, which may lead to piles (hemorrhoids) or worsen existing ones.
Muscle strain- Overstraining pelvic floor muscles can cause weakness or dysfunction over time.
A**l fissures- Excess pressure may cause small tears, leading to pain and bleeding.
Poor bowel habits- Sitting too long can make your body dependent on straining rather than natural bowel movement reflexes.
Circulation issues- Extended sitting (especially with straining) can reduce blood flow in the pelvic area.
A healthy toilet habit is to sit for only 3-5 minutes. If you can’t pass stool in that time, it’s better to get up, move around, drink water, or try later instead of forcing it.
