A Tale of Three Valves

A month of milestones at Manipal Hospital, Baner, where our dedicated heart team successfully performed three life-changing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVR) helping patients regain their strength and confidence without open-heart surgery.

Case 1: A 77-year-old gentleman with severe valve narrowing and breathlessness. Post-TAVR, his heart pressures dropped beautifully, and he was home by Day 3 breathing easier and smiling brighter.

Case 2: A 90-year-old patient with multiple fainting spells and a heavily calcified aorta. With precision and care, our team placed a new valve and supported him with a pacemaker he’s now back to his daily routine.

Case 3: A 79-year-old with severely weakened heart function (EF 35%) and valve blockage. After TAVR, his heart function improved to over 50% within days a truly remarkable recovery!

Dr. Abhijit Joshi recently completed an extensive hands-on training at two of Spain’s leading university hospitals in the field of Structural Heart Interventions.

At La Fe University Hospital in Valencia, he actively participated in five complex TAVR procedures, including challenging valve-in-valve cases and patients with difficult femoral anatomy, under the expert guidance of Dr. Jorge Sanz Sanchez.

He further enhanced his experience at Bellvitge University Hospital in Barcelona, assisting in three highly intricate TAVR cases alongside renowned interventional cardiologist Dr. Rafael Romaguera.

During this training, Dr. Joshi also had the opportunity to work with the Allegra self-expanding TAVR valve—a next-generation device particularly suited for patients with small annuli and redo valve-in-valve procedures, ensuring optimal haemodynamic outcomes.

This international exposure adds valuable insights and advanced techniques to his clinical practice, further elevating the standard of structural heart care in India.
