Pilates shares quite a few elements with Yoga and various martial arts. But while Yoga has spiritual elements, Pilates is purely focused on physical fitness.
The exercises involve strength training of the lower body. The back, thighs, hips and of course the upper and lower abdominal muscles perform the bulk of the workout. Typically there are 30 to 40 movements in a single workout. Most of them use gravity and body weight as form of resistance. Pilates has elements of Calisthenics like the push-ups and sit-ups. In fact, it is a more advance and rigorous stage of Calisthenics.
