Neck stiffness in the trapezius muscle has become one of the most common problems nowadays especially with long hours of mobile use, laptop work, and poor posture. This condition is often called trapezius muscle spasm or neck muscle tightness.
It usually happens due to prolonged screen time, incorrect sitting posture, stress, lack of movement, or sleeping in a wrong position. The trapezius muscle (upper back and neck area) becomes tight and inflamed, leading to neck pain, shoulder stiffness, headache, and difficulty in turning the neck.
How to manage it?
Simple changes can make a big difference. Maintain proper posture while working, keep your screen at eye level, and avoid bending your neck for long periods. Regular neck stretching exercises, physiotherapy, hot fomentation, and ergonomic correction help relieve pain. Managing stress and taking frequent breaks during work is equally important.
If your neck stiffness is persistent or severe, consult a spine pain doctor / spine specialist. Early treatment can prevent it from turning into a chronic issue.
