One for Sorrow, Two for Joy
I've been playing it for years - this simple but valuable-lessoned game between the Universe and I. My mother taught it to me, of course. It combined two things typical of her - Her love for Indian birds and her special ways to keep me entertained and happy.
For those who don't know the game, please allow me to teach it to you…
It's
1 for Sorrow
2 for Joy
3 for (a) Letter, as in post
4 for, it used to be a Toy, but post puberty it became 4 for Boy! Much more interesting! Moving on…
5 for Silver
6 for Gold and
7 for a Secret never to be told.
Notice how innocent those times were when we actually received letters and when a secret was more valued than gold.
Back to playing roulette with the cosmos.
So, one had to spot Mynas and my mother trained me well to find them, over distances and hidden among trees. Luckily, the adorable little Myna is a common Indian bird, which cannot be confused with any other owing to its distinct size and colouring. If you saw 1, then it meant deep dark despair or 2, you were given the permission to feel elated and so on.
I strongly believed in this rhyme, all along my childhood, teenage and adult life. If 1 saw one lone Myna, sorrow would follow and if I spotted 2, life would be amazing! I even wasted time waiting for the little partner Myna to fly over and join a single tweeting one, so there would be 2 and then, I would finally be happy.
It's only recently that I figured something out.
And it's such a perfect analogy for Life and the Law of Attraction that I had to share it with you.
The Law of Attraction is a simple, yet difficult one. How’s that for complex? Let me simplify… The rule is straightforward enough to understand but practically, it can be tricky to follow.
YOU ATTRACT AS YOU ARE.
This essentially suggests that if you are happy, you will get happier. If you are grateful, you will receive more. If you feel abundant, you will always have your needs met.
Now this sounds pretty ridiculous because if I'm already happy, grateful or living in abundance, why would I need anything more in that area? Right?
But, that’s not the point.
The situation may not be in your control but how you feel about it, is. So even if things are not so great, you need to believe that they are and then the good stuff will follow. Find what’s not working and begin talking about it in promising ways. Don’t complain or crib. Just focus on the positive.
Remember, the Universe responds to YOU.
And you know how I know that?
Because every time I was sad, I was shown 1 lonely Myna and every time I was happy, I saw 2.
It was never the other way around.
