Glaucoma is a disease of the eye in which when the pressure inside gets high it affects the optic nerve. The optic nerve is important for the vision of the eye. If the nerve starts losing its nerve fibres. This process is irreversible. That means once there is loss of nerve fibres they cannot regenerate. And the nerve starts getting weak . Eventually that eye loose the vision.
How to avoid it??
1. Get regular eye check up done with an ophthalmologist.
2. If you are above 40, then once a year check up is a must. As Glaucoma does not show any symptoms.
How will doctor diagnose the problem?
Your eye doctor will perform certain eye tests like measuring eye pressure,
detailed check of optic nerve clinically as well as certain tests like OCT to confirm the diagnosis.
How to treat or cure Glaucoma?
There is no permanent cure to glaucoma like Diabetes or hypertension but you can still keep it under control by putting eye drops prescribed by the doctor. These drops will keep eye pressure at optimum level and delay the damage.
