Success story 01
I delivered a baby girl through C-Section, and during the initial few days, she was 80% formula-fed and 20% breastfed. After my discharge, my parents urged me to switch to 100% breastfeeding and stop using formula. However, things didn't go as smoothly as expected; the baby started crying terribly, leaving me perplexed about what could be wrong. I began to suspect that my milk supply might not be sufficient, and the baby might be underfed. Whenever I breastfed her for 30-40 minutes, she would still appear unsatisfied and lick her fingers, indicating she might still be hungry.
In our society, women are expected to have full confidence in their breast milk supply and exclusively breastfeed, as that's how our parents and ancestors raised their children тАУ without resorting to formula. Furthermore, excessive crying in babies is considered normal, with a common saying being, "Bacchae hai royenge hi" (Babies will cry, that's normal).
As the baby's crying persisted, and with the lack of sleep pushing me towards postpartum depression, I realized I needed expert advice. That's when I came across Dr. Preeti Deshmukh, a Lactation Consultant, through a Google search. I quickly booked an appointment and visited her with my mother. Dr. Preeti attentively listened to our situation, identified the mistakes we were making, and debunked the generational myths that my mother believed to be normal. She addressed various misconceptions, including the impact of a mother's diet on the baby's milk supply, the ideal milk consumption for the baby, expected weight gain, how to store breast milk for future use, and much more.
Following her advice, I began pumping milk to assess my milk production. To my surprise, the milk supply turned out to be inadequate compared to my baby's needs. Only then did my parents and other elders accept that the baby's cries were due to hunger. This realization led them to reconsider their past experiences, where they had considered excessive crying as something typical for babies.
Upon starting the recommended supplements to boost milk supply, my breastfeeding journey took a significant turn. Within 1.5 months, my baby was exclusively breastfed, and today, at 8 months, she continues to thrive on breast milk along with solid foods.
Throughout this journey, Dr. Preeti has been a pillar of support, always available and prompt in responding to my queries. She diligently followed up on my milk supply and invested her efforts in making my breastfeeding experience a success. Thanks to her guidance, my baby enjoys good immunity and robust health, making Dr. Preeti a true game-changer in our lives.
