Respiratory Research Network of India RRNI conducts large academic research in respiratory medicine in India. It brings together the experts in the field of respiratory medicine.

The Respiratory Research Network of India (RRNI), an initiative of Chest Research Network, is a non-profit network of doctors’ dedicated to respiratory medicine which has its wide reach across India. It brings together the experts in the field of respiratory medicine from all over the country under one platform to facilitate knowledge sharing and research. RRNI persuades the network investigators to translate new research ideas into multicentre studies so that the data generated has a good geographical representation of Indian population. The network provides a well coordinated, efficient access to a large & diverse patient population across a range of respiratory diseases and demographics.

In 1981, Bruce Reitz and Norman Shumway performed the first successful combined heart-lung transplant in a patient with end-stage primary pulmonary hypertension, opening the door to the possibility of future isolated lung transplantation in humans. Two years later, Dr. Joel Cooper made successful lung transplants a reality. While the procedure still has it’s difficulties, the viability of lung transplantation has come a long way. A rescue inhaler can be a lifesaver during an asthma or COPD flareup, but using a rescue inhaler is complicated and misuse is common, putting patients’ lives at risk. An education strategy, called teach-to-goal, may help patients use their inhalers properly during these critical times, according to research published in the American Thoracic Society journal Annals of the American Thoracic Society.
