What else a Cataract & Squint Surgeon wants ?
2 stories - immense satisfaction....
Story 1 -
Mr. Raj, resident of Perth, Australia, working in merchant navy, got our reference from his relatives in India for advanced cataract surgery. He had decided to visit us to get surgery done from me. His freind in India visited us before to get preliminary information about surgery. He flew to India, had only 10 days leave. He visited us, we did thorogh work up done for cataract surgery, & gave personal advice about "Which lens to implant" from array of modern lenses that we implant, as per his lifestyle. We explained him pros & cons of all modern lenses. We performed advanced cataract surgery with advanced lens implantation. Finished end to end in 5 days. He flew back to Australia & joined his job on ship immediately. He wrote feedback from Australia & sent us message of gratitude on what's app. He had chosen us when he had full health insurance coverage in Australia. Even then he decided to pay from his pocket to come to India & get surgery done from me as he didn't have Indian health insurance. So much trust from his side puts so much responsibilty on our shoulders. But it feels great when we perfom far better than his expectations. 6/6 unaided vision on day 1 with insignificant autorefractometer reading in each eye is so so satisfying.
Story 2 -
Master Aarav Ghosh, 9 years old kid with squint, referred by another Ophthalmologist to me.
Extremely cooperative kid & parents. We discussed entire management of Squint & advised Squint surgery. Parents were so supportive & confident that they immediately got ready though it has to be done under general anesthesia. He got admitted at 7 am, we did surgery & discharged at 2pm. Child was much more cooperative than any adult patient. 1 week follow up his mom said, Doc, Aarav has something to give to u. He gave me handmade card. It was so satisfying to see this card & parents satisfaction after perfectly done Squint surgery. Looking at her Son's cooperation for entire process, his mom has decided to get refractive suergery done for her eyes.
In today's world of materialism, excessively fast moving technology, pros & cons of AI, excessive advertisement & corporatisation in healthcare, it's empathy, personal touch & personal advice has its strong presnece which differentiates healthcare from other service industries.
