Dr. Anand Koppiker is delighted to share the latest milestone of his research team! His research team collaborative effort with the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) team has culminated in a significant review published in "Cancer Reports" titled "Exploring the Human Microbiome – A Step Forward for Precision Medicine in Breast Cancer."

In light of the alarming prevalence of breast cancer, especially in India, we've delved into the intriguing realm of the gut microbiota's impact on breast cancer development, treatment, and prognosis. The research team's comprehensive analysis showcases the intersections between oncobiome and distinct breast cancer molecular subtypes, highlighting the role of epigenetics, nutrition, and cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). A leap towards personalized therapy and enhanced prognostication.

This is the 15th publication from the Prashanti Cancer Care Mission (PCCM) Research Team for the year 2023.

Last week Dr. Anand Koppiker and his research team attended meetings at the prestigious National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Shankara Hospital, St. John's Research Institute (SJRI), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) in Bangalore. Through the three days of meetings what significantly concluded was the outcome to discuss about developing a " physician scientist program" for India, bridging the gap between clinical expertise and cutting-edge research.

As the pioneer behind the establishment of the Center for Translational Cancer Research (CTCR), Dr. Anand Koppiker is proud to witness more such collaborative initiatives in India. Dr. Anand Koppiker believes that such collaborations and programs are crucial for advancing breast cancer research and making a real difference in patient's lives. He rightly says working together, we can push the boundaries of what is possible in the fight against this disease.

Dr. Anand Koppiker was invited as a guest of honour for the inauguration of the world's first independent Centre for Psycho-Oncology in India, in partnership with the Rising India Research Foundation. This initiative of the Independent Centre for Psycho-Oncology is the first of its kind in the entire world with the objective of improving the quality of life of cancer patients and their family members through psychological counselling and therapy.

Psycho-oncology is an essential supportive care that needs to be provided to cancer patients and their caregivers. Surveys conducted at Orchids Breast Health, have shown that over 75% patients feel the need for onco-psychological counselling and support group. Our studies also show that over 75% breast cancer patients report a change in appetite, sleep cycle and loss of energy during cancer treatment. Indeed, onco-psychological counselling and therapy are the need of hour as this may help the cancer patients and their caregivers to manage the psychological distress, anxiety, depression and other associated problems.

Dr. Anand Koppiker wholeheartedly Thanks and Congratulates the Texas School of Mental Health for such a remarkable initiative in India and extend his best wishes for their continued success.

Research findings suggest that physical activity and a healthy nutritious diet, can not only help in reducing the side effects during breast cancer treatment but also reduce the risk of re-occurrence of breast cancer. During breast cancer treatment, the body needs a strong immune system and nutrition plays a crucial role in the treatment regime.

Dr. Anand Koppiker’s patients are often intrigued by the role of nutrition in the cancer journey and to address this important topic, he has shared information in Femina’s “Ask the Expert” February 2023 edition.
