🔥 Burns are among the most common injuries in children and often occur at home.
Young children are especially vulnerable because of their curiosity, thin skin, and limited awareness of danger.
The most frequent causes include hot water, steam, tea, coffee, hot vessels, fire, electricity, and chemicals.
Even a few seconds of exposure can cause serious injury.
🩹 Immediate First Aid Can Reduce Damage:
• Remove the child from the source of heat
• Cool the burn immediately under running tap water for 20 minutes
• Do not use ice, toothpaste, ghee, butter, oil, or powders
• Gently remove clothing or jewelry near the burn (do not pull if stuck)
• Cover the burn with a clean cloth or sterile gauze
• Do not burst blisters, as this increases infection risk
⚠️ Special Situations:
• Chemical burns: Rinse the area thoroughly with plenty of water and seek medical help urgently
• Electrical burns: Always need hospital evaluation, even if the skin looks normal
🚑 Seek medical attention immediately if:
• The burn is deep or large
• More than a small area is involved
• The burn affects the face, hands, feet, ge****ls, or joints
• The child has severe pain, breathing difficulty, or signs of infection
⛑️Prevention Is the Best Treatment!
Keep hot liquids out of reach, turn pot handles inward, avoid carrying hot drinks near children, and supervise them closely in the kitchen and bathroom.
Early correct first aid and timely medical care can prevent complications, scarring, and long-term disability.
