🤰 Risk Factors for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) 🤰
Gestational diabetes can develop during pregnancy, and certain factors increase the risk. These include:
👉 Overweight or obesity
👉 Family history of diabetes
👉 Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS)
👉 Previous baby weighing 4.5 kg or more at birth
👉 Previous history of gestational diabetes
👉 Ethnicity (South Asian, Chinese, Black African, African Caribbean, Middle Eastern)
👉 Multiparity (having given birth multiple times)
👉 Advanced maternal age (over 40 years)
If you fall under any of these risk categories, early screening and monitoring are essential for a healthy pregnancy.
