“The trained nurse has become one of the great blessings of humanity, taking a place beside the physician and the priest.” — Dr. William Osler
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on 12th May to commemorate the birth anniversary of the “Lady with the Lamp,” Florence Nightingale, a compassionate caregiver, visionary leader, and the founder of modern nursing. The theme for this year, “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” aptly highlights the invaluable role of nurses in strengthening healthcare systems and saving lives through dedication, skill, and compassion.
In keeping with this spirit, the Nursing Service Department organized International Nurses Week from 6th May to 12th May 2026 to celebrate the values of Care, Compassion, and Commitment that define the nursing profession. Nursing professionals of our institute enthusiastically participated in a wide range of activities and competitions conducted throughout the week. These included Rangoli competition, indoor games, quiz competition, cultural programs, technical skill competition, Antakshari, musical chairs, poster presentation, and faculty lectures. A food stall was also arranged as part of the celebrations, adding joy and togetherness to the occasion.
The week-long celebration culminated on International Nurses Day with a meaningful and dignified program. The event included the Florence Nightingale Pledge, inspiring speeches paying tribute to Florence Nightingale, and recognition of the selfless and tireless services rendered by nurses towards global healthcare. The program also emphasized the importance of empowering nurses to build a healthier and stronger future for society. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions conducted during the week.
Let us take this opportunity to honour and appreciate the unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment of nurses, whose noble service continues to make a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals every day.
