Savitribai Phule Jayanti, observed every year on January 3rd, was celebrated today to commemorate the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, India’s first female teacher. This day is widely recognized across India as Women’s Education Day, honoring her pioneering role in advancing girls’ education and women’s empowerment.
A visionary social reformer, Savitribai Phule broke multiple social barriers to promote education among girls and marginalized communities, courageously challenging the deep-rooted discrimination of her time. Her life and work continue to symbolize strength, determination, and an unwavering commitment to equality.
As part of the observance, students delivered speeches highlighting Savitribai Phule’s life and contributions. A thought-provoking play titled “Aashayein” was enacted, portraying her journey and struggles. Students also presented Ovi, a rhythmic verse form from Marathi folk literature, narrating her life.
The event paid tribute to Savitribai Phule’s enduring legacy, which continues to inspire educators and learners. On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to her ideals of equity, inclusion, and equal access to quality education, guiding institutions toward gender equality and social justice.
