The Foundation of Homoeopathy: ‘Similia Similibus Curanter’
‘Similia Similibus Curanter’, is the basic principle on which Homoeopathy works. Also known as the ‘Law of Similars’, it was understood by Aristotle and Hippocrates and has been mentioned in ancient Hindu manuscripts. It means that- any substance which can produce symptoms in a healthy person can (in tiny, microscopic doses) cure similar symptoms in a person who is sick. A simplified example would be of onions, which make your eyes water and burn. So if you have an attack of acute coryza with a burning nose and watery eyes, a remedy derived from the same source may be used to treat it.
