प्रभू रामचंद्र हे समस्त हिंदूंचे आराध्यदैवत आहे. हजारो वर्षांपूर्वी त्रेता युगात आजच्याच दिवशी दुपारी अयोध्येमध्ये माता कौसल्येच्या पोटी श्रीरामांचा जन्म झाला होता. श्रीराम हे भगवान श्रीविष्णूंचा सातवा अवतार होत. मातृपितृभक्त, एकवचनी, महापराक्रमी, एकबाणी, चारित्र्यवान, तत्त्वनिष्ठ, न्यायनिपुण, सज्जनांचा आदर करणारा, प्रजेवर आत्यंतिक स्नेह करणारा राजा अशा अनमोल सद्गुणांचा समुच्चय असल्याने श्रीरामांना ‘मर्यादापुरुषोत्तम’ मानले जाते.

रावणासारख्या अनेक जुलमी राक्षसांचा वध करून श्रीरामांनी पृथ्वी भयमुक्त केली. त्यांच्या राज्यात प्रजा सुखी, समाधानी होती. म्हणूनच त्यांच्या आदर्शवत राज्याला ‘रामराज्य’ म्हटले गेले. त्यांच्या ठायी असलेल्या अलौकिक गुणांमुळेच त्यांना ईश्वरस्वरूप मानले गेले आहे.

गुढीपाडवा हा सण हिंदू दिनदर्शिकेप्रमाणे चैत्र शुद्ध प्रतिपदेला महाराष्ट्रात साजरा केला जातो. शालिवाहन संवत्सराचा हा पहिला दिवस. या दिवशी मराठी नववर्षाला प्रारंभ होतो. पुराणानुसार, ब्रह्मदेवाने या दिवशी विश्व निर्मिले. प्रभू रामचंद्रांनी चौदा वर्षांचा वनवास संपवून याच दिवशी सीतामाता आणि लक्ष्मणासह अयोध्येत प्रवेश केला. त्यांच्या स्वागताप्रीत्यर्थ अयोध्यावासियांनी गुढ्या, तोरणे उभारली होती.

गुढीपाडवा हा साडेतीन अत्युत्तम मुहूर्तांपैकी एक मुहूर्त आहे. आजच्या दिवशी घराच्या प्रवेशद्वारावर गुढी उभारली जाते, जी विजय आणि शुभत्वाचे प्रतीक आहे. प्रात:काळी लोक ओवा, मीठ, हिंग, मिरी आणि साखर कडुनिंबाच्या पानांबरोबर वाटून खाऊन आरोग्यदायी नववर्षाची सुरुवात करतात. घरांना तोरण लावले जाते, रांगोळी काढली जाते, नवीन वस्त्र परिधान करून आनंदोत्सव साजरा केला जातो. आजच्या दिवशी नवीन वस्तू खरेदी, व्यवसाय प्रारंभ, नव उपक्रमांचा प्रारंभ, सुवर्ण खरेदी करणे अत्यंत शुभ मानले जाते.
