Sickle Cell Institute Chhattisgarh (SCIC), Raipur Establish on 7th October, 2013. This institute will function as totally autonomous institute. So far the screening work for detection of sickle cell disease and carrier state has revealed that about ten percent (10%) of the population is suffering from this genetic disorder. The project is "Establishment of Sickle Cell Institute in Raipur". The Institute will be a dedicated centre for treatment, research, counseling and training related to sickle cell disease. The institute will have a completely dedicated 100 bedded hospital for sickle cell disease patients which will be equipped with OPD, casualty, wards, intensive care unit (ICU), operation theatre (OT), blood transfusion facilities, diagnostics lab etc. Similarly a there will be a research division dedicated to sickle cell disease research, which will be equipped with cytogenetics, molecular genetics, gene silencing& stem cell, applied medical genetics, medicine & cancer research, Genetics& intervention, bioinformatics& biostatistics, and isotope & animal house laboratory facilities. The institute will be run on 100 percent financial aid from Govt. Budget Requirement for the establishment of infrastructure for Sickle Cell Institute will be about Rs. 60 crores for the period of 4 years.
