Life-Saving Drug Now Available in Rajkot – A Result of Doctors’ Personal Efforts!
An operation is in progress… suddenly, the patient develops a high fever – not just any fever, but 105–106°F. Heart rate shoots up chaotically. It becomes clear that the patient is suffering from Malignant Hyperthermia – a rare, life-threatening reaction. Just like Sanjeevani was found in the Himalayas to save Lakshmanji’s life in the Ramayan, here the only life-saving remedy is Inj. Dantrolene, which is available only in a few places in the country. It is also extremely expensive – treatment for a single patient may require ₹2–3 lakhs worth of medicine (around 2 ampoules).
Since this drug is used only once every few years, keeping it in stock is not financially feasible for most – in most cases it expires unused.
Thanks to the active cooperation of several specialist medical associations in Rajkot, Inj. Dantrolene is now available here. The doctors have bought it at their own expense, without any outside help – fully aware that if it is not used within two years, the money is lost, and since it is imported, no company will take it back. Even knowing this, they still keep it ready, praying it never has to be used – because even if it is used, it does not guarantee that every patient will survive. Who knows what tomorrow holds?
This extraordinary and heartfelt initiative includes:
• ISA (Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists), Rajkot Branch
• ASR (Association of Surgeons Rajkot)
• Orthopaedic Society of Rajkot
• ENT Surgeons Association, Rajkot
• ISCCM (Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine), Rajkot Branch
• ROGS (Rajkot Obstetrics and Gynaecologists Society)
The injection has been procured with the help of the ISA Baroda Branch, since it has to be purchased in packs of 5–6 ampoules at once. All the above organisations together have purchased 3 vials of Inj. Dantrolene, which are now available in Rajkot. This medicine is required only in emergencies, and must be administered within 30–90 minutes to be life-saving. Keeping such an extremely rare and gold-priced drug ready without waiting for anyone’s approval is an act of true commitment.
This effort by doctors shows that when it comes to saving a patient’s life, they don’t wait for rules or funds – they take responsibility themselves. This is a living example of humanity.
The availability of Inj. Dantrolene here is not just a medicine purchase – it is a firm resolve to avoid any regret when the need arises. Even knowing that the general public may not understand the importance of such an investment, the doctors’ pride lies in putting their own money forward for it.
