Beyond the Vault: A Journey into India’s Monetary Heritage

The girl students of the BBA and MBA of FIEM and FBS embarked on an enlightening and memorable journey today as they visited the Reserve Bank of India Museum in Kolkata—an experience that proved far richer than a routine academic excursion.

The visit began with an engaging briefing on the wide spectrum of career opportunities within the RBI. Officers acquainted the students with the institution’s various functional capacities and responsibilities, offering them a clear view of the professional avenues that India’s central bank presents. They were also informed about potential opportunities for future summer internships, giving them a promising glimpse of practical exposure ahead.

Following the introductory session, the students proceeded through the museum’s meticulously curated galleries. Known for its thoughtful design and excellent maintenance, the museum presented a vivid visual narrative of the evolution of Indian currency—from early metallic forms to the modern security-rich banknotes in circulation today. Fascinating visual installations, alongside interactive presentations, kept the students deeply engaged and allowed them to connect with the subject matter in a dynamic manner.

As they explored further, the students encountered detailed exhibits illustrating the multifaceted roles and responsibilities of the RBI. The museum chronicles the RBI’s transformations over the decades, capturing its expanding mandate and evolving contributions to India’s financial stability and economic development.

The visit ultimately evolved into an immersive journey through the nation’s monetary heritage. The experience left the students enriched, informed, and inspired—broadening their academic horizons and sparking a deeper curiosity about the world of finance, policy, and central banking.
