The Hidden Danger of Ignoring Symptoms: A Crucial Lesson in Healthcare
I need to share this experience to stress a vital point about anore**al health.
A 46-year-old patient came to my clinic with a concerning complaint: bleeding from the re**um for a year and a half. The bleeding was recurrent, sometimes fresh, sometimes black clotted blood.
For months, she tried over-the-counter (OTC) medicines with no success. She then consulted two different doctors who treated her for 'piles' based only on her symptoms. For 14 long months, this symptomatic treatment continued but neither doctor performed a local examination.
When she finally came to me, my digital re**al examination (DRE) immediately revealed a mass consistent with re**al cancer. An urgent colonoscopy confirmed a re**al growth, and the subsequent biopsy (HPE) showed adenocarcinoma.
The painful truth? If a local examination had been performed earlier, her diagnosis would have been made much sooner, and she could have started treatment at an earlier stage.
My Advice to Everyone:
NEVER skip an adequat and judicious local examination for any a**l condition. ALWAYS insist on being properly examined. Symptomatic treatment should be avoided.
