India's Independence Day is a powerful reminder of the spirit of freedom, resilience, and self-reliance that has shaped our nation. As we celebrate this historic day, it is essential to honor the legacy of our ancestors by embracing the Swadeshi movement—a commitment to promoting and using Indian-made products in our daily lives.

Swadeshi products symbolize more than just economic nationalism; they represent our culture, heritage, and the collective effort to boost the Indian economy. By choosing Swadeshi, whether in clothing, food, or household items, we support local artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs. This strengthens small businesses and creates job opportunities, fostering economic growth from the grassroots level.

The sector, too, benefits immensely from the adoption of Swadeshi products. By opting for Indian-made pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and wellness products, we not only ensure affordability and accessibility but also encourage innovation within our country’s healthcare industry.

Incorporating Swadeshi into our lives also means reducing dependence on imports, enhancing sustainability, and preserving our environment. Locally produced goods often have a smaller carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices.

This Independence Day, let us pledge to support and promote Swadeshi products wholeheartedly. Whether it’s buying a handcrafted garment, using herbal skincare, or choosing Indian-made medical supplies, every small step contributes to the vision of a self-reliant India— . Together, we can build a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous nation that honors the sacrifices of our freedom fighters through actions that empower our people and industries.

by embracing —because a self-reliant nation thrives on the strength of its own creations.

*Celebrating the Maestro: Dr. K K Ramalingam*

I was deeply honoured to attend the 90th birthday celebration of my guru, mentor, and boss — Dr. K K Ramalingam — a legendary figure in Indian ENT and a true pioneer in the field.

Dr. Ramalingam has been widely acclaimed as the Father of Modern Ear Surgery in India, having pioneered stapes surgery in South India with over 15,000 procedures and a remarkable success rate exceeding 98%. Since the 1980s, he has conducted temporal bone workshops that have trained generations of surgeons from India and around the world. A passionate teacher and author of the classic textbook Learning Ear Surgery Through Temporal Bone Dissection, he has been instrumental in shaping ENT training across the nation.

A staunch advocate of patient-centric care and disciplined research, Dr. Ramalingam remains devoted to the Hippocratic oath and to advancing medical science with humility and purpose.

The celebration brought together a galaxy of dignitaries — Shri P. Chidambaram, Hon. CM M.K. Stalin, Former CJI & Kerala Governor Justice P. Sathasivam, Maharashtra Governor Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, as well as renowned singers, actors, and leading healthcare professionals from across India.

Legends from every medical specialty and super-specialty were present, including Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman of Apollo Hospitals — a true testament to the impact Dr. Ramalingam has had on the medical fraternity at large.

On a personal note, Dr. Ramalingam recognised my potential early — in 2019, he gave me my first platform as Consultant Head & Neck Surgeon, and later supported my fellowship in microvascular reconstruction in Australia. He has been the best teacher, a caring mentor, always supportive, and unwaveringly patient-focused.

My warmest wishes on this extraordinary milestone, sir. Your legacy continues to shape lives — those of patients, students, and surgeons like me.

Honoured to be a part of the Ranchi Cancer Summit 2025 held yesterday— a landmark gathering bringing together over 700 delegates and 100 experts from across India to reshape the future of cancer care.

It was a privilege to moderate a panel discussion on "Oral Cancer Management: Balancing Guidelines and Customization", navigating the fine line between evidence-based protocols and patient-centric approaches.

Grateful to the organising team for this enriching platform, and humbled by the presence of the Honourable Governor of Jharkhand and the Health Secretary, whose support underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in oncology.

Today, I had the privilege of speaking at a CME on "Multidisciplinary Approaches in Cancer Care", organized by in association with Hospital, Gandhinagar, Kanke Road.

As a Head & Neck Cancer Surgeon, my session focused on the thought-provoking topic:
" – A Silent Killer?"

I explored a critical perspective: oral cancer is not silent in its symptoms—but society often responds with silence. The session aimed to challenge perspectives and spark critical dialogue around early detection, awareness, and the role healthcare professionals like us play in changing outcomes.

It was heartening to engage with over 60 fellow doctors in this meaningful exchange of knowledge and ideas. Together, we can amplify awareness and improve outcomes through timely diagnosis and collective responsibility.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at a CME on "Management of Oral Cancer" organized by RCHRC and the Indian Dental Association, Ranchi.

With over 60 dentists and oncologists in attendance, this event highlighted the critical role dentists play as the first point of contact in identifying early signs of oral cancer. Empowering dental professionals with updated knowledge is essential for early detection, timely referral, and better patient outcomes.

I spoke on the surgical management of oral cancer, while my esteemed colleagues shared their expertise: Dr. Rajanigandha – Role of Immunotherapy
Dr. Deepak Kumar – Brachytherapy in Oral Cancer
Dr. Shranav – FDG PET-CT for Early Detection

Grateful to be part of a collaborative platform that promotes interdisciplinary cancer care and advances awareness in oral oncology.

Gratitude. Growth. Grit.
Today, I completed 1 year at RCHRC, Ranchi, and it's been a deeply fulfilling journey in the realm of Head & Neck Surgical Oncology.

🔹 320+ major Head & Neck cases performed
🔹 Tackled challenging post-radiotherapy laryngectomies with primary closure—both without complications
🔹 Successfully operated on giant thyroids and large parotid malignancies with smooth post-op recoveries
🔹 Performed local flap reconstructions (scalp, cheek, nose) and handled complex, mutilating tumor surgeries
🔹 After training in Microvascular Reconstruction under Mr. Sader and Ms. Whelan in Perth, I returned with some nervousness due to the gap in practice. But today, RCHRC proudly stands as one of Jharkhand’s leading Head & Neck departments, performing the highest number of microvascular reconstructions and complex H&N surgeries in the state.
🔹 One of the proudest moments was performing a facial reanimation in a total parotidectomy case, achieving aesthetic success with a dermofat graft technique—a skill honed at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, NSW, under Prof. Jonathan Clark.
🔹 And a personal milestone: I had the privilege of authoring and serving as Chief Editor of the book, “A Closer Look at the Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve”—a deep dive into the anatomical, surgical, and clinical nuances of one of the most crucial nerves in head and neck surgery.

It’s been a year of meaningful challenges and quiet milestones, and I look forward to continuing this journey of surgical excellence, academic contribution, and compassionate care.
