159th Hospital Day – Celebrating God’s Faithfulness, Heralding the Future
The 159th Hospital Day of Scudder Memorial Hospital, Ranipet was celebrated on the 2nd and 3rd of September 2025 with deep gratitude, joyful fellowship, and renewed commitment to the mission of healing.
The celebrations began on 2nd September with the campus coming alive through food and sales stalls set up by our Doctors, AHS Staff, Students, and Housekeeping Department Staff. This spirit of togetherness flowed into the evening when the entire hospital family gathered at the Chapel for Praise, Worship, and a Thanksgiving Service. During this service, we also paused to honor staff members who have served 25 years and are due to retire in the coming year, thanking them for their faithful witness and lifelong dedication to the ministry of SMH.
On 3rd September, the hospital family assembled once again in the Chapel for a Dedication and Communion Service, rededicating ourselves to the call of Christian healing. Soon after, the celebration extended to the hospital gates, where sales stalls by the College & School of Nursing, Nursing Service, Paramedical and Administrative Departments added color, joy, and fellowship to the morning. In a special moment of thanksgiving, we also dedicated a new 9-Seater Vehicle and a Biochemistry Analyzer XL 640 ERBA Machine, both of which will strengthen our services to patients.
The most historic moment of the day was the Turning of the Sod for the OG Block Extension to the OG OPD. This act symbolized our steadfast commitment to women’s health and stood as a sign that while we honor the past, we are also boldly heralding the future.
Adding further depth to the occasion was the release of the book In the Healing Ministry Since 1866 (Condensed Edition of A Thousand Years in Your Sight). Originally authored by D. V. Scudder, this new bilingual edition (Tamil and English) has been carefully prepared by the Scudder Memorial Hospital team. Written in simple, easy-to-understand words, it shares the inspiring life story of Dr. John Scudder and Harriet Scudder, whose faith and sacrifice laid the foundation for Christian medical mission in India. By making this history accessible, the book not only reconnects us to our roots but also reminds us that the very foundation of Scudder Memorial Hospital is built upon faith, sacrifice, and service that bear witness to our Lord Jesus Christ.
The day concluded in fellowship, as lunch packets were shared with all staff and interns, a simple yet profound reminder that the SMH family stands united in mission and service.
As we step into our 160th year, we gratefully remember Dr. John Scudder, whose vision began the story of Christian healing in India, and Dr. Silas Downer Scudder, his grandson and the founder of this hospital. Their faith-driven legacy continues to inspire us as we remain committed to “𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞.”
Together, let us continue to carry forward this sacred trust and ensure that Scudder Memorial Hospital remains a pillar of healing and hope for generations to come.
