✨Overview

Kunjapuri Temple is a Shakti Peetha dedicated to Goddess Kunjapuri (a form of Durga).

Altitude: approx 1,660–1,676 metres above sea level.

Distance: ~25-30 km from Rishikesh; about 7 km from Narendra Nagar.

🪷Significance & Mythology

According to Hindu mythology, this temple is one of the sites where the chest of Sati fell when Lord Shiva carried her burnt body. This gives it status as one of the Shakti Peethas.

✨“Beatles Ashram” is the popular name for Chaurasi Kutia, an ashram founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi near Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.

In 1968, the Beatles (John, Paul, George & Ringo), along with other artists like Donovan, came here to study Transcendental Meditation. During their stay they wrote many songs, including tracks that appeared on the White Album.

After some decades of being abandoned, overgrown, and largely neglected, the site was officially opened up to the public in December 2015.

⭐What You’ll See & Experience

The site spans roughly 14 acres. There are 84 beehive-like meditation huts (hence “Chaurasi Kutia” = 84 huts) where disciples used to stay.

There’s a lecture hall, often called the “Beatles Cathedral,” which now has murals, graffiti, and art installations inspired by the Beatles and by visitors.

Surrounded by jungle and close to the Ganga river; lush, atmospheric, especially in the mornings or late afternoons.

⌛Visiting Info

Location: Swargashram area, Rishikesh. It's about 1 km from Ram Jhula and ~3-4 km from Lakshman Jhula.

Timings: Open daily from about 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

🏝️Arundhati Cave (Rishikesh)

🔺This is a sacred cave near Rishikesh linked with their story. Some key points:

🔺The cave is called “Arundhati cave” is mentioned in our Vedic texts.

📍Location: On the banks of the Ganga River, Badrinath Highway, near Gooler or Gular village. It’s about 25 km from Rishikesh.

There are over 200 steps to reach from the road.

Inside the cave there is a Statue of Godess Durga ji

The cave is managed by Swami Purushottamananda Trust.

Myth / Legend as relates to Arundhati Cave

After the death of their children (in certain stories), Vashistha was in deep sorrow and tried to commit su***de in the Ganges. The river (Ganga) refused him.

Arundhati, impressed by the beauty or peace of that location (by the river + cave area), decided to stay there. Vashistha meditated for long periods in that cave, to heal, to find peace.

Kunjapuri Temple Visit
Nestled high in the serene Himalayas at 1,650 meters, Kunjapuri Devi Temple is a revered Shakti Peeth, where devotees bow to the Divine Mother. It is believed that the upper torso of Goddess Sati fell here, sanctifying the hilltop with powerful spiritual vibrations.

The temple stands as a beacon of Shakti (divine feminine energy), where seekers come to offer prayers, chant mantras, and receive blessings of Maa Kunjapuri, a form of Goddess Parvati. The atmosphere is filled with the sound of bells, incense, and devotion, uplifting the heart into deeper surrender.

Many pilgrims climb before dawn to witness the sacred sunrise, when the first golden rays illuminate the snow-clad peaks of Gangotri, Chaukhamba, and Bandarpunch. This divine spectacle is seen as a reminder of the eternal light of the Goddess pervading the universe.
