How many types of diets are there? What kind of diet should a person eat while practicing Yoga and meditation? And why?
According to Ayurveda, there are three types of diets, Satvik diet, Rajasvik diet and Tamasic diet.
1.Satvik diet: This diet inspires spiritual development.
Example: It includes fruits, vegetables, grains, milk, curd, nuts and suitable types of oils and cow ghee etc. This diet promotes mental peace and purity.
Effect: When you meditate and eat a sattvic diet, your mental state remains stable, and your meditation is effective. This improves your mental health, and also improves your spiritual practice.
2. Rajasic diet: Rajasic diet is mainly rich in Rajasic qualities, this diet is generally not considered good for spiritual progress, as it contains more high-Rajasik elements, which can lead to mental state disturbance.
Effect: If a person eats this type of diet in large quantities, it affects his mental state. By doing such work his mind becomes highly agitated, restless, worried and unstable, which affects his meditation and spiritual practice.
Example: The unhealthy diet includes excess oil, fried food, sweets, use of too much spices and salt, alcohol, to***co, excess caffeine etc.
3. Tamasic diet: Tamasic diet is harmful for Yoga, meditation and spiritual practices, causing mental instability and hindering spiritual progress.
Effect: Tamasic diet takes a person away from spiritual goals, distracts the mind while meditating and generates anger, sensuality and fickleness.
Example: Fried foods, highly spicy diets, meat, alcohol.
