16 जून 2024 माँ गंगा दशहरा
माँ गंगा दशहरा को गंगावतरण के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, जिसका अर्थ है देवी गंगा का अवतरण।

गंगा दशहरा देवी गंगा को समर्पित पर्व है तथा इस दिन को उस दिन के रूप में मनाया जाता है जब माँ गंगा भागीरथ के पूर्वजों की शापित आत्माओं को शुद्ध करने हेतु पृथ्वी पर अवतरित हुई थी। पृथ्वी पर आने से पूर्व, देवी गंगा भगवान ब्रह्मा के कमण्डल में निवास करती थी तथा अपने साथ देवी गंगा स्वर्ग की पवित्रता को पृथ्वी पर लायी थीं।

गंगा दशहरा पर भक्त देवी गंगा की पूजा करते हैं तथा गंगा स्नान करते हैं। गंगा दशहरा के दिन गंगा में स्नान करना और दान-पुण्य करना अत्यधिक शुभ माना जाता है। मान्यताओं के अनुसार, गंगा दशहरा के दिन गंगा में पवित्र स्नान करने से सभी प्रकार के पापों से मुक्ति मिल जाती है।

श्रद्धालु पवित्र स्नान करने के लिये प्रयागराज (इलाहाबाद), गढ़मुक्तेश्वर, हरिद्वार, ऋषिकेश तथा वाराणसी में आते हैं। वाराणसी में गंगा दशहरा उत्सव प्रसिद्ध है।
