Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth - NIT Rourkela Chapter

SPIC MACAY is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture; it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world. It seeks to foster the traditional Indian values and to generate awareness of the cultural traditions and heritage of India. In order to achieve its goals, SPICMACAY organizes concerts, lectures, demonstrations, workshops, informal discussions, and talks by eminent scholars and thinkers. These programs are hosted in schools and colleges with support of the local chapters of the organization. SPIC MACAY NITR Chapter is a group of engineering students of National Institute of Technology Rourkela with an aim of exposing rich classical cultural of the country amongst entire NITR family. It has welcomed eminent Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Shree and Grammy Awardees.

The spirit of Vaisakhi fills the air with the sweet melody of Kirtan (devotional hymns), the clinking of colorful bangles, and the irresistible aroma of freshly prepared delicacies. ✨

Eid Mubarak! 🌙✨ Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, holds immense significance in Islam. It commemorates the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and is observed with fasting, prayer, and reflection. Muslims worldwide abstain from food and drink from dawn till dusk, focusing on spiritual growth, self-discipline, and empathy for the less fortunate.

As Ramadan draws to a close, we eagerly await the joyous celebration of Eid. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is a time of thanksgiving and festivity. It is a day of joy, feasting, and gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon us.

This Eid, let us remember the essence of Ramadan - the spirit of humility, compassion, and unity. Let us continue to practice kindness, generosity, and empathy towards all, regardless of differences.

Worshippers adorn Maa Saraswati idols with flowers and offer prayers seeking her blessings for academic success, creativity, and enlightenment.This festival not only celebrates the beauty of nature’s awakening but also inspires individuals to embark on new journeys of learning, creativity, and spiritual enlightenment.
Maa Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music, arts, and wisdom, is revered during Basant Panchami. She is depicted as a serene and graceful deity, often seated on a white lotus, symbolizing purity and transcendence. Her four arms hold a veena (a musical instrument), a book (representing knowledge), a rosary (symbolizing meditation), and a pot of sacred water (signifying purity).

"Raksha" translates to protection, while "Bandhan" signifies bond. Together, they encapsulate the essence of this festival—a commemoration of the pure and protective love between brothers and sisters.

The origins of Raksha Bandhan can be traced back to Hindu mythology. In a tale of divine triumph, during a battle against demons, Goddess Sachi, the wife of Lord Indra, tied a sacred rakhi to her husband's wrist on the auspicious day of Shravani Purnima. This act of protection played a pivotal role in Lord Indra's victory.

Onam, the annual harvest festival of Kerala, mirrors its rich cultural heritage and is celebrated with great splendour and enthusiasm.

Legends say Onam is celebrated to mark the homecoming of King Mahabali, a generous mythical king, who comes to meet his land and subjects every year.

The festivities are marked by beautiful ceremonies, rangoli also known as Pookalam, classical dance Kathakali, and a huge feast called Onam Sadya highlighting a variety of delectable dishes served on a banana leaf.
The traditional snake boat race 'Vallam kali' remains one of the major tourist attractions of the state as hundreds of men row their snake boats across the backwaters competing against each other.
