“I have never seen the management of a private hospital to be of such a humble demeanor. Neither have I ever seen so much importance given to the dentists or dental department.”
– Prof. (Dr.) Asishtaru Saha
These words, penned by one of the most eminent prosthodontists, capture the spirit of Calcutta Heart Clinic & Hospital. They also reflected the ethos of its Dental Department during the two-day CME program, PREP AND RESTORE, held on August 19th and 20th—a celebration of learning, service, and compassion.
The event was not only an academic gathering but also a conscious effort to carry forward the vision of Dr. R. Ahmed, the father of modern dentistry in India, who believed in advancing dentistry as a rigorous, scientific, hygienic, and ethical discipline.
The first day opened with the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Asishtaru Saha, whose lecture on Tooth Preparation for Crown and Bridge was more than a technical exposition—it was a symphony of science and wisdom, sharpened by decades of practice. His live demonstration and interactive Q&A revealed the timeless exchange between teacher and student. The day concluded with a warm felicitation by Dr. Kisan Pradhan, Hony. Secretary, and Dr. Ashok Samanta, Medical Director of CHCH, symbolizing the department’s gratitude and respect.
The second day unfolded as a structured journey into implantology. Dr. Divya Chadda began with an introduction to dental implants, explaining bone biology and anatomy as the foundation. Dr. Soumya Purkait followed with insights into treatment planning and case selection, stressing the wisdom of preparation. Dr. Shovan Maity then highlighted radiological planning—CBCT, RVG, and OPG—as the dentist’s eye within. Dr. Sneha Sekhsaria carried the baton forward with basics of implant prosthetics, while Dr. Tanushree Bera reflected on soft tissue assessment and complications.
The academic sessions came to a close with Prof. (Dr.) Nupur Banerjee—distinguished exponent in Maxillofacial Surgery and guiding spirit of the CME—who blended surgical expertise with compassion and also delivered the closing address. With authority and grace, she tied together the learnings of both days, inspiring participants to carry the discipline forward with scientific, hygienic, and ethical integrity.
A large group of young, energetic dental surgeons from various medical institutes across the state participated with keen enthusiasm, making the sessions vibrant and interactive. Their active engagement enriched the dialogue between faculty and learners, transforming the CME into a collaborative journey of growth. “Too much satisfied,” remarked Dr. Anandamoy Ghosh, one of the participants, echoing the general sentiment of the group. The participants’ appreciation and excitement bore testimony to the program’s success, affirming its impact as more than just an academic event. At the conclusion, certificates were awarded to the participants—not merely as tokens of attendance, but as affirmations of their commitment to skill, scientific knowledge, hygienic practice, ethical service, and patient-centered care.
What gave the CME its pulse, however, were the participants—their questions, enthusiasm, and engagement bore testimony to dentistry’s living tradition: the unbroken chain of knowledge passed from one generation to the next.
