Can diabetes cause hair loss?

Yes! Diabetes can cause hair thinning and hair loss in some people as it can effect the growth cycle of the hair by-

impairing hair growth
stopping new hair from forming

01. Uncontrolled or untreated diabetes can result in a person's blood sugar levels becoming too high. Persistently high blood sugar levels can lead to damage in nerve endings, small blood vessels and various tissues including hair follicles. Poor supply of oxygen and nutrients due to damaged blood vessels can cause hair loss.

02. Diabetes can put a great deal of stress, both physical and emotional, on a person's body. Persistent stress can cause hormone fluctuations that can affect hair growth.

03. A kind of baldness called Alopecia areata, in which the immune system begins to attack healthy hair follicles by mistake is more likely to occur in people with type 1 diabetes.

To prevent or minimize hair loss due to diabetes,

1) keep sugar under absolute control through diet management and exercise.

2) keep stress under control through meditation or relaxation practice

3) take foods rich in biotin, such as whole eggs, nuts, including almonds, walnuts, and peanuts, salmon, avocado, sweet potato, cauliflower.

4)Take good care of hair with oils such as Neeli Gold Hair growth oil, which are prepared carefully using traditional ayurvedic methods.

This immunity-boosting recipe using ingredients available in most kitchens is worth giving a try, especially in the chilly months. Ginger (1 tsp), tulsi (holy basil) (1 table spoon), turmeric (1/4 tsp) boiled in 2 cups of water with a dash of honey will make a tea that will fight some common illnesses. The tea acts as a good anti-microbial infusion and also fights indigestion, strengthens immunity and reduces inflammation. Proportions may be changed as per taste.

Monsoon is here (for most of the country), and so are pesky mosquitoes. It is the ideal season for mosquito breeding, and if not brought under control, they cause a number of diseases. Malaria, dengue, filaria and chikangunya are just a few of the illness for which mosquito acts as a carrier. Here is a small list of ideas to help you protect yourself and your family against this uninvited house guest:
1. Cover up! 2. Use a fan or an AC to make it difficult for a mosquito to land on you. 2. Get rid of standing water, which serves as a breeding ground - this includes empty flower pots, buckets, bird baths, etc. 4. Install netted screens for your doors and windows 5. Use natural mosquito repellants such as oils of citronella, neem, lavender, clove, eucalyptus or rosemary. A couple of drops of any one of these mixed with coconut oil or even water will act as a good repellant. Alternatively, you can also make a potpourri for your home with these herbs or their oils, and hang them in pouches around the house.

Early morning sun rays stimulate the production of Vitamin D, which aids in calcium absorption. We already know this. But Ayurveda recommends a walk at sunrise for another reason: it balances 'sadhaka pitta' or emotional health, and sets you up for a more balanced day.

Summer is here, stay cool and hydrate!
