Punjab Government Honours Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital for Exemplary Performance

On the occasion of Independence Day, the Punjab Government honored the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre for its exemplary implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana. The recognition was awarded specifically to the hospital's Sangrur unit for its outstanding contribution under the scheme.

Punjab's Cabinet Minister for Industries, Commerce, Investment Promotion, and NRI Affairs, Mr. Sanjeev Arora, presented the award to the hospital during the Independence Day celebrations held in Sangrur on Friday. The award was received on behalf of the hospital by Shri Madho Singh, Director (Administration).

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Dr. Ashish Gulia, Director of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, said, "We have always received the support of the state government in our mission to serve the cancer patients of the state. Being honored on Independence Day confirms that we are moving in the right direction. We will continue our efforts to ensure that no cancer patient in need ever has to leave Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital disappointed."

After accepting the certificate of appreciation from Minister Sanjeev Arora, Director (Administration) Shri Madho Singh congratulated all hospital staff and credited the achievement to the relentless hard work of the doctors and medical team under the able leadership of Dr. Ashish Gulia.

He added, "This honor is a recognition of our team’s dedication and also a motivation to keep serving cancer patients in need with the same commitment in the future."

Earlier in the day, Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at both the New Chandigarh and Sangrur campuses of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. The event saw enthusiastic participation from a large number of doctors, medical staff, patients, and their families.

Extending his Independence Day wishes, Dr. Ashish Gulia stated, "We have been entrusted with a significant responsibility—to treat cancer patients not only from Punjab but also from neighboring states and Union Territories including Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. We will continue to serve with integrity and dedication."

The Ayushman Bharat Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana is a cashless health insurance scheme launched by the Punjab Government, offering cashless treatment to eligible residents in both government and empaneled private hospitals.

Dedicated to providing world-class cancer care to the people of Punjab and neighboring regions, the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in August 2022. Located in New Chandigarh (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district), the hospital was established by Tata Memorial Centre at a cost exceeding ₹660 crore and operates under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

The hospital is a tertiary care facility with a capacity of 300 beds and offers comprehensive cancer treatment including surgery, radiotherapy, medical oncology, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and bone marrow transplant. It serves as a regional hub for cancer care, with a 125-bed satellite center in Sangrur acting as its spoke.
