Seeking to make change, one girl at a time!

“Another important lesson I learnt at Akhand Jyoti is that of self-independence.” – Sweta Goswami

Sweta had always been a homely girl, and when she had to come and stay at Akhand Jyoti after completing her standard 12 to study to become a professionally qualified optometrist and play football at the same time, she thought she would miss her family dearly. Soon she found a new family in her batch mates and seniors.
Through the ‘Football to Eyeball’ rural girls' education, skilling, employment, and empowerment programme, she completed a Diploma in Optometry and is presently earning handsomely, pursuing a promising career as an Optometrist at Akhand Jyoti, and also continuing higher studies, doing a Bachelors in Optometry.

Today this proudly says that she feels a great sense of achievement being able to financially support her family. We wish her all the best in life.

“Akhand Jyoti gave me the power to dream and the power to turn my dreams into reality.” – Khushbu Chaubey

7 years back when Khushbu joined Akhand Jyoti’s ‘Football to Eyeball’ rural girls’ education, skilling, employment, and empowerment programme, she never knew what having a career meant. She also did not know that one day she would not only have a fulfilling occupation but also be able to support her family financially, a role usually assigned to men in the predominantly patriarchal village of rural Bihar from where she hails.

Today after completing a Diploma in Optometry and presently pursuing a bachelor in Optometry, Khushbu is earning handsomely as an Optometrist, coordinating the outpatient department at Akhand Jyoti’s base hospital in village Mastichak.

This , working and earning, pursuing higher education, and supporting her family financially is a strong example against gender based discrimination towards girls in her village and other backward regions of Bihar.......

Seeking to make change, one girl at a time!

Priya hails from Nayagaon village very close to Akhand Jyoti’s base hospital in the Saran District of Bihar. When her parents had to shift to Delhi for work, they could not take her along. Fortunately at about the same time in 2015 after completing her standard 10, the family came to know about Akhand Jyoti’s “Football to Eyeball” rural girls’ education, skilling, employment, and empowerment programme. Excelling in the entrance process Priya joined the programme and there has been no stopping her since then.

Today after completing a Diploma in Optometry, Priya is pursuing a rewarding career as a Optometrist at Akhand Jyoti. She plans to do further studies and develop herself even further. Today her parents are not worried about her while she treasured every bit of her self-independence. We wish this all the best in life.

Seeking to make change, one girl at a time!

“Akhand Jyoti helped me stand on my own feet. Now I am a big support for my mother.” – Nisha Kumari

Being a single parent, Nisha’s mother never thought that she could afford and access higher education for her daughter. Further coming from a conservative background she never wanted to send Nisha far away from her into an unknown environment. Fortunately, she was convinced by the counsellors at Akhand Jyoti to allow her daughter to pursue the residential “Football to Eyeball” rural girls’ education, skilling, employment, and empowerment programme.

Nisha joined the programme after completing her standard 10 in 2016 and after completing a Diploma in Ophthalmic Techniques (DOT) in 2021 she is presently earning handsomely as an Optometrist and Executive Tele Calling at Akhand Jyoti’s base hospital in the Mastichak village of Saran district in Bihar.

We wish Nisha all the best in her future endeavours. May she continue to shine and grow in the years to come.
