Shingles/ Herpes zoster
Caused by the same virus which causes chicken pox.The rash appears as a band of blisters in one area of your body.
The risk of shingles increases over 50 years of age and more likely in those with a weakened immune response ( those people with HIV, those on chemotherapy and organ transplant recipients)
Symptoms include: fever with chills, redness and rashes over an area in your body and then fluid filled blisters.
It may take around 3-5 weeks for the rash and symptoms to disappear.Since the virus travels on a particular nerve root, shingles rash is seen as a band localised to a particular nerve root.
Treatment of shingles is with antivirals and pain killers.
Prevention:2 doses of vaccine given 2-6 months apart helps in Prevention of shingles.

Apolipoprotein b is the main surface protein found on ldl cholesterol. ApoB is responsible for carrying cholesterol and and also clearing it from your body. Some cholesterol is good because it helps to produce hormones in your body, but when in excess it forms plaques and restricts the flow of blood.

Apo b helps to transport ldl cholesterol through your arteries. Ldl is the bad cholesterol in your body.

Why do u need to get an Apob tested-

It is an indicator of your heart’s health.
It helps to measure the plaque forming particles.
Once u know the level u can treat it.

If u have a high apob -
Reduce consumption of saturated fat like processed meat ,red meat, butter.
Increase intake of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats- olive oil, avacado, flax seeds.
Increase fibre intake.
Exercise regularly.

Meet your doctor and get your apob level checked.

Good carbs/Bad carbs
Carbohydrates have a bad reputation ,people blame them for weight gain ,but is it really true.

There are bad carbohydrates, but not all are bad.

Carbohydrates found naturally in plant based food are typically good carbs. They are also called complex carbohydrates, which help in promoting digestion and metabolism.

Complex carbohydrates are often packed with nutritional layer like fiber and bran which make you digest it slowly. When digestion is slow the blood sugar spike is not seen.

Carbohydrates are again broken to : fibre, starch and sugars.
* FIbre is a complex carbohydrates which is not completely broken down and helps to digest other nutrients.
Sources of fiber: lentils , beans, peas, fruits, vegetables, nuts, brown rice.
* Starches are also digested slowly and they ate found in beans, peas, fruits and whole grains
*Sugar comes in two forms:natural and added sugars.added sugar adds to the sudden spike in sugar level.

Bad carbohydrates are added to processed food as starches and sugars, these are called simple sugars which are absorbed in the bloodstream and gets converted to blood sugar.

Popular food with simple carbs include:
White bread, refined pasta,pastries,white rice.

Risk factors for cardiovascular disease apart from high cholesterol.
Cardiovascular disease is preventable
Diabetes changes the chemical makeup of some of the substances found in the blood and this can cause blood vessels to narrow or clog it. A well controlled diabetes helps to maintain the heart health.
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together increasing your risk for heart disease.Conditions include high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglycerides.
Smoking increases risk from cardiovascular disease.Nicotine and carbon monoxide from smoking makes your blood sticky and your arteries become narrower.Narrow arteries reduce flow of blood to your heart, muscles and other organs making exercise harder.

Eating a healthy diet ,regular exercise ,stop smoking, keeping BP and diabetes under control and maintaining body weight are some of the steps to keeping the heart healthy.

On the occasion of World heart day.." Use your ❤ to connect"

Harnessing the power of digital health to improve awareness, prevention and management of CVD globally is the goal for Word Heart Day 2021. Telehealth has a huge role to play as we continue to USE HEART TO BEAT CVD.

Three key pillars
Equity -Not all hearts are equal. But they should be… and digital health can help to redress the balance.
Prevention-Look after your heart by eating a healthy diet, saying no to to***co and getting plenty of exercise. Digital tools, like phone apps and wearables, can really help you to get motivated and stay on track.
Community-There are 520 million people globally living with CVD that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 in the last year. Due to increased vulnerability to more severe forms of COVID-19, this population has been told they are vulnerable, at-risk and should shelter in place.
There are many consequences of this, amongst them:
Missing medical appointments
• Lack of contact with family and friends
• Reduced physical exercise
Digital networks have the power to connect patients with families, friends, other patients, doctors and carers. No one should have to feel alone, pandemic or not, so let’s use technology to overcome isolation and gaps in care.
