We are excited to invite applications for our post doctoral fellowship Course in Transplant Pulmonology & Critical care which is India’s first University accredited training program designed to provide a comprehensive exposure to all aspects of Lung transplantation and Critical care .
This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team who run India’s largest and most successful Lung Transplant program partnering with multiple hospitals across the country.
Program Highlights:
Post Transplant ICU management, Respiratory & ECMO ICU,
Interventional Pulmonology,
Transplant and Advanced Lung Failure OPDs, Donor lung Assessment, ExVivo Lung Perfusion,
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Emphasise on Clinical Research and Presentations in International Conferences.
Eligibility: Post graduate degree in Pulmonology (MD/DNB/DM). (Candidate with experience in pulmonary interventions & Critical care exposure preferred)
Duration: 18 months

Post-Transplant Journey of Ms. Anita Sharma

Ms. Anita Sharma, a double lung transplant recipient, operated at D Y patil Hospital pune, is truly an inspiration. Two years after her life-saving surgery, she is now living her life to the fullest — doing what she loves most: singing!

Recently, a beautiful video surfaced of her performing with an orchestra during the Ganpati festival. Her voice, filled with life and gratitude, is a powerful reminder of how far she has come.

From Oxygen Dependence to a New Life – Neenaben’s Incredible Journey

Mrs. Neenaben Patel, a resilient patient from Vadodara, was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). Within a year, her condition worsened, and she became dependent on oxygen support.

Faced with rapid deterioration, her family made the brave decision to explore lung transplant. They reached out to Dr. Sandeep Attawar and the team at KIMS Hospitals, Hyderabad.

In just 15 days, Neenaben received a life-saving double lung transplant. Her recovery has been nothing short of remarkable – walking confidently within days, and discharged just 20 days post-surgery.

After a successful second lung biopsy, she is now stable, strong, and ready to return to her hometown with a new breath of life.

Her story is a powerful reminder that with the right decision at the right time, miracles do happen.

From Crisis to Comeback: A 9-Year-Old’s ECMO Miracle

When a 9-year-old boy from Lucknow arrived with life-threatening respiratory failure, it was clear we were in a race against time. He was suffering from severe diffuse alveolar hemorrhage due to Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (C-ANCA positive) — a rare, aggressive autoimmune vasculitis affecting his lungs.

KIMS-ECMO team immediately mobilized, initiated veno-venous ECMO at the referring hospital, and airlifted him to our center for specialized care.

He spent 30 days on ECMO, supported by a powerful combination of:
• Cyclophosphamide
• IVIG
• Rituximab
• Plasmapheresis

The odds were tough:
• Ongoing bleeding in the lungs made anticoagulation a tightrope walk
• He developed severe leukopenia, requiring extreme infection control
• Yet, only one episode of candidemia occurred — and was swiftly managed
• He even walked and sat upright while on ECMO, thanks to early mobilization and determination

Today, this incredible child is off ECMO, back home, and thriving.

His recovery is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when teamwork, technology, and trust come together.

Kudos to KIMS Heart & Lung Transplant and Pediatric Critical Care teams for making this miracle happen.
