Turakapalem village, Guntur district is facing a deadly outbreak of Melioidosis โ a rare but highly fatal bacterial infection.
This is NOT a seasonal fever. This is NOT a routine outbreak.
๐ What we are witnessing is a public health crisis of deadly proportions.
๐จโโ๏ธ Dr. Vyakarnam Nageshwar, Pulmonologist & Allergist/Immunologist, warns:
โDiabetics are sitting targets.โ
โThose with poor immunity โ especially HIV or kidney patients โ are at grave risk.โ
โExcessive alcohol users are high risk.โ
โAnd most alarmingly, farmers, construction workers, sanitation staff, and veterinary workers who work daily in soil and water are staring directly into danger.โ
๐ The Government has stepped in:
โ
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered medical camps in every household and assured free treatment under the CM Relief Fund.
โ
Union Minister Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has confirmed the cause: Melioidosis.
โ ๏ธ This is a wake-up call โ not just for Turakapalem, but for every village across Andhra Pradesh.
Awareness and precaution are the first line of defense.

MELIOIDOSIS: VIETNAMโS TIME BOMB NOW EXPLODES IN
ANDHRA PRADESH EXPERTS DEMAND WAR-TIME RESPONSE
By
Dr. VYAKARNAM
NAGESHWAR
Pulmonologist &
Allergist/Immunologist
Hyderabad, September 7, 2025:
What we feared has come true. What experts warned
for decades has just landed in our backyard. Melioidosis
โ a deadly bacterial infection โ has forced a health
emergency in Turakapalem village, Guntur district.
This is no ordinary outbreak. This is not a seasonal
fever. What Andhra Pradesh is facing today in
Turakapalem, Guntur district is a public health
emergency of deadly proportions. The government has
stepped in โ the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu
has ordered full medical camps, health profiles of every
villager, and promised that all hospital expenses will be
covered under the CM Relief Fund. Union Minister,
Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has confirmed the
cause: Melioidosis โ a rare, highly fatal bacterial
disease.
But let me tell you the blunt truth: this disease is as
dangerous as a biological time bomb.
WHO IS AT RISK?
This bacteria hunts the weak and the exposed. And the
warning is coming from no ordinary doctor. The same
medical superspecialist who recently raised red flags
over CM Chandrababu Naiduโs deteriorating health
during his arrest, is now sounding a red alert for Andhra
Pradeshโs farmers and frontline workers.
โข Diabetics are sitting targets.
โข Those with poor immunity โ especially HIV or
kidney patients โ are at grave risk.
โข Excessive alcohol users are high risk.
โข And most alarmingly, farmers, construction workers,
sanitation staff, veterinary workers who work daily
in soil and water are staring directly into danger.
SYMPTOMS YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS
The attack is sudden, merciless. Watch out for:
โข High fever
โข Pneumonia (lung infection)
โข Pus-filled abscesses on skin
โข Painful ulcers and wounds
โข Severe headache
โข Abdominal pain
โข Bone and joint pain
The terrifying part? These symptoms can show up
within 24 hours of exposure.
THE KILLER BACTERIA THAT WAITS FOR DECADES
The culprit here is Burkholderia pseudomallei. It is not
just dangerous โ it is cunning. It enters quietly through
a cut, through air, through food. It hides in
contaminated water and soil.
โข In soil and water, it can survive for 16 years.
โข In the human body, if untreated, it can lie dormant
for 29 years โ waiting, attacking when immunity
falls.
That is why, in Vietnam 1966, it was called the
โVietnam Time Bomb.โ
IF LEFT UNTREATED
Ignore it, and it spreads like wildfire. It infects the liver,
lungs, brain, kidneys, bones, joints โ and finally turns
into septicemia, a deadly blood infection that can rot
organs and kill without mercy.
TREATMENT: RACE AGAINST TIME
The only way to defeat Melioidosis is with speed and
precision.
โข Phase 1 โ Intensive: Immediate IV antibiotics.
โข Phase 2 โ Eradication: Long-term oral antibiotics
until every trace is removed.
Any delay, any wrong step โ and lives are lost.
WAR-TIME STRATEGY NEEDED
Let us stop pretending this is routine. What is needed is
nothing short of a war footing.
1. Full-scale awareness among people.
2. Immediate hospitalization of anyone with
symptoms.
3. Supply of multivitamins and immunity boosters to
villagers.
4. Identify and track diabetics, kidney patients, HIV
patients, chronic illness groups.
5. Launch aggressive sanitation and provide safe
drinking water.
6. Make Melioidosis testing mandatory in every
hospital โ private and government โ for all
patients in the region.
THE HARD TRUTH
Turakapalem is ground zero. If we donโt act like soldiers
in this war, this infection will spread beyond one village,
beyond one district, beyond one state.
Melioidosis is not just a medical challenge โ it is a
public health emergency of national importance. The
clock is ticking.
